NWR: Walkability

Re: NWR: Walkability

  • Or Carmel HS!

  • We have a score of 97.

I wonder how you get a 100.  Except for an airport, I can't think of anything I can't get within a mile of here.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • You're probably right, LP!

I love all of these puppy sign pics.  So freaking cute!  I want to squish them all!

[QUOTE]Kate, you bring two big reusable bags and don't buy more than can fit in those bags. When I was single and carless I could fit about 10 days worth of groceries into two bags. My grocery store was about .6 miles away and down hill. It was a great workout carrying back 30 lbs of groceries half a mile up hill.

<div>This.   We have car but I find it easier and to just walk.  I also have a cart if I need it, but generally I'm okay without it.</div>

  • It's so interesting discussing this.  Since Earth Day was Sunday, we have a lot of green initiatives at our office (just started composting!), and I think about the walkability both to work and around where we live.  I hope to find something similar wherever we move.

LP, I used the euphemism for your HS, since I wasn't sure if you wanted people to know where you went.  Although it's pretty good description. 4,000 for 4 grades?  So graduating classes would be 1,000 people!?!  That's nuts!

Sorry about the HUGE picture for a minute....effing photobucket didn't save the resize....it should have been a lot smaller than that.

    ETA:  Photobucket officially blows.
  • Yeah I guess if I went to the store more frequently I could probably carry everything.  As it is I usually end up with an entire trunk full haha

  • Cool site.  I'm going to have to use it to convince my fiance that we really don't need a car.  Our current address has a score of 92!  We're moving to somewhere still in the same area this December.  My dad owns the car we use, and pays insurance and maintenance, and I know that we can't afford to do that on our own.  He'll have to get used to shopping in the local stores more often and using zipcar once a month or so to do a big shop or stopping at better stores during his commute home.

  • I know my current place in Columbia Heights is pretty high, but I'm doubting it for my new house in Greenbelt.

<div>Yeah, it's crazy.  And the halls were crowded enough with 3.000 students, I can't imagine how they are now.  The building is pretty damn big though.  I heard somewhere that my graduating class had the highest drop out rate in the history of the school. There were only 560 of us compared to 700+ in the graduating class before me.  </div>

  • OMG I love this site. We have used it for all apartment hunting endevors, plus in school a decent amount for design projects.

My place is a 92. I live in Chicago and am literally about 500 feet away from two grocery stores, plus every kind of food imaginable. It's pretty much amazing. The funny thing is, we're moving two blocks away and our score drops to an 88.
