Hey E! Less than 3 weeks 'til the big day. Help me with my attire?

Okay so I'm getting married in late October and now my mom and aunts are all "zomg!  It could be freezing!  You're going to sick on your wedding day if you don't have SOME type of cover-up jacket!!!111!!@!!!"

Persoanlly, I don't see how a little bolero will help me stay that much warmer, but for Oct 23, is it too early for (faux) fur wrap?

Here is a pic of my dress.  Please note that the model is wearing the matching bolero but I didn't like the flared sleeve and it was super expensive.  No thanks. My dress does have straps though.

Any suggestions?

  •  Or is it too late to even get anything now?  I don't know how long it would take from a place like Etsy. : /

  • I'm re-posting the text to see if it fixes the format:

  • Now my answer :)

If you aren't worried about being cold, I'd tell your mom and aunts to be quiet. Or perhaps just say "oh thanks, I'll get on that" and then never happen to get around to it. If you are worried, I think a fur wrap might be a little too winter-y depending on the general decoration and colors of your wedding, but I also don't think that it's exactly going to be a huge problem. What about a pashmina?
  • How long do you think you'll be outside?  You probably don't need a jacket unless you are planning on doing pictures outside for an hour or so.  Even then, if you just have a regular winter jacket to slip on in between photos, that should keep you warm enough.  so I say, no need for a bolero or other jacket.
  • The wedding is indoors, I presume?  I think you'll be ok if it is.

  • How much time will you spend outside?  When my friend got married at the end of December in a Buffalo winter she had one of those faux fur wraps.  The only time she even put it on was when she had the photographer take a picture outside so she could wear it since it wasn't cheap.  Other than that though we were just running in and out.  And actually all of us BMs wore strapless dresses and were fine.

If you do want to order one though, many Etsy sellers offer rush shipping if you ask, usually at an additional charge.

  • I think it's too late to order anything online so if you buy anything I would suggest buying it in person.  Is your wedding outside?  If not, I don't really see why this is a big deal.  If your wedding is outside, I really don't have any other suggestions other than a long-sleeved bolero jacket.  I would suggest a shawl, but if you think a bolero jacket isn't going to keep you warm, I doubt a shawl will.
  •  Both the ceremony and reception will be indoors.  I personally think I would be okay and I considered bringing one of my regular jackets just in case, but I figured I would look/ask about the cover-ups as well.

Maybe I'll get lucky and Chicago will have 65 degree weather *fingers crossed*

  • It's like when my mom told me to wear a jacket over my halloween costume. WHY WOULD THE DEVIL NEED A JACKET?

    Your dress is gorgeous, btw.

haha YES.  I always hated when my mom told me to wear a jacket while trick or treating.

OP, if both your ceremony and reception are inside, I really wouldn't worry about it then.
  • It snowed on our wedding day and I didn't have a jacket.  The ceremony and reception were indoors so the only time I would have needed it was for quick outdoor pictures.  It really wasn't that bad, and we went in when I got cold.  I think you'll be ok without a jacket, just explain to your mom you won't be outside much (if at all).
  •  Thanks for all the suggestions ladies!

Thanks Zippity and yes, your other comment reminds me of childhood fights with my mom about "bundling up" and having to cover-up my halloween costume *shakes fist*

  • Depending on how long you'll be outside for your pics (if you are) I have a suggestion.. I don't know if you can get them in the States (I'm in Canada) but up here we have these "hand warmers" that you can get from sports stores. When you take them out of the package and they are exposed to air, they warm up. If you don't want a bolero or a pashmina, then you could maybe get these handwarmers and just stick them down the front of your dress?! My cousin did it a couple years ago, and she said they were a life saver!!

Hope this helps you a bit!!
