Good day to you!

  • Ummm...what? I don't know that I would have been able to respond to that proposal with anything beyond a blank stare.

  • I could MAYBE understand running out of the theater without them. I mean, in that situation, I dno't know how I'd react. I'd like to think I'd be admirable and heroic, save the kids and whoever I could, but I just don't know.

But actually getting in the car and taking off? No effing way. I can't believe she said yes.
  • Woke up to thunder this morning.  We desperately need the rain, but it was still noisier than I was ready for at 6 am.  Even our yellow lab, who is super mellow about storms, was agitated.

Still struggling to keep my eyes open, and I forgot to bring change for the pop machine. Is it wrong to wish for a power outage at work?  Just want to go home and sleep...

I'm glad I'm not the only cynical person who thought that.

I get that you can't really know how you'll react to a situation like this until you are in it, and not everyone is going to tap into some deep reserve of heroism that they didn't know they had.  But at the bare minimum, I would like to think that I wouldn't sacrifice others to save my own skin, especially my 4 month old child.  If I did, I think that says something very fundamentally bad about me and I would hope that my H would not act like it doesn't.

  • Ya, the driving away is the icing on the cake.  Like, wtf?  Are you not a little bit concerned about your GF and kids in their with a maniac?  Just a touch?

  • Nope, he lost me when he dropped the 4 month old. But yes, him driving away is icing on the asshole cake.

Yeah, honestly this whole time I've been a little skeptical of the whole "he ditched them" thing, because I mean...nobody knows how they're going to react when they're being shot at.  Like Sesh said, we all want to think we'd be heroic and protect our loved ones.  Reminds me of when we saw Titanic in the theatre and Rose jumped out of the lifeboat to stay with Jack on the sinking ship, and my mom said to me, "I'd like to think I'd do that if it was me and your father, but I don't know, under the circumstances, if I could be that prepared to die."

But yeah, the driving away part utterly condemns him.  That's just awful.

The story I read has him quoted as saying that it wasn't until she actually called him that he went back for her.  He was on his way home when she called so he then turned the car back around to go back to her.  Makes me wonder what he would have done if she hadn't called.

  • Yeah, I can actually understand fleeing the theater without the girlfriend and daughter but not dropping the 4 month old or driving away. And I totally agree with Calix on that if in the midst of the craziness, I did do something like that, that I would hope my H wouldn't just brush over it.

Yeah, I think that would have actually made a huge difference.  If it even LOOKED like he was trying to protect someone other than himself.

  • This guy seems like even bigger of a douche when you consider how many people there did act heroically.  When a 13 year old girl tries harder than you, you kinda suck.

<div>I think it would have been better if this had happened. A) Dropping a baby? You could have killed him just by dropping him, shooter or no shooter. B) People fleeing for their lives are not checking the ground for dropped babies. C) There was an effing shooter in the room and you left your defenseless child who couldn't even crawl away if he wanted to. At least the 6 year old and her mother can run. </div>
  • Good morning ladies.  I saw all of that about the guy dropping the baby yesterday and can't believe she still accepter his proposal.  I would have a very hard time accepting it if H just bailed on me in a crisis.  But leave our kids?  Fvck no.  I had no idea he drove away after too.  I really hope that girl comes to her senses when everything dies down.  I could never marry a man that I couldn't count on to have my and our kids safety as a priority.

Also, to make it worse, a 19 (or 21, I've heard both) year old guy helped the mom and kids get out and got shot in the leg doing so.  In an interview he said if anyone was getting out of there he was making sure it was them before himself.

  • Is it bad that I could see this ending up on a TV judge's docket suing him for "emotional trauma" related to a shooting?  I would love to see him ripped apart by judge judy.

  • I can't believe that she accepted his proposal either, and what annoys me is they're making sure the media knows about it. I hate when people are media whores.

Given that my maternal instinct these days is really strong, I don't think I could just drop my baby.

When the original word was that there was a 3-month old killed, my immediate thought was that the killer better hope he kills me too if that was my child.
  • Whatever his reasons, dropping a baby and fleeing would be a dealbreaker for me. Doesn't matter if it was his natural response. Automatic. Dealbreaker. I could never forgive him for that.
  • Well. You guys are buckets of sunshine today.

Good morning! I'm a sucker and not so quick to judge people who act and react in traumatic situations. Trauma does really weird things to people way out of their character.

    FISH FACE!

Would you drive away though?  It's sort of a supremely assy thing to do.  Fleeing the building is one thing, but driving away?

  • Thanks, LTB! One of the interns made me cookies, and my favorite comic strip series was dedicated to me today!

Also, Judge Judy is my favorite.  I want to be like her when I grow up.

Habs, did you hear one of the people in the theater has lawyered up to sue for emotional trauma?  He is suing the theater, Warner Brothers and the suspect's doctors.

  • I have absolutely no idea what I would do or how I would react if there was a crazy man with an AK 47 shooting people in a movie theater. In situations like that, some people act without thinking. I don't know if he knew what he was doing. I haven't talked to the guy or heard him talk about what his experience was like. If he was lucid and knew what he was doing in the moment, sure. But I don't know that that's the case. Admittedly, i haven't read about it. But yeah.

I'm in the boat where I'm not judging a soul who was in that theater. Does it seem horriffic that he would drop the baby? Yup. Sure does. Because I don't know, has he given an interview? I wonder how much guilt the dude has. I don't know enough about the story. But I would guess that he probably already feels like an A-1 asshole.

  • I'm sure that WB is going to laugh at that lawsuit, since it's not even remotely their fault that the gunmen was crazy.
  • Am I weird for wondering how his fellow prisoners will treat him? Like, will he be allowed in gen-pop? If so, would they consider what he did to be so horrible that he'd get his ass beat constantly?
  • I have a question for any cooking people.  I'm making THESE for Friday.  I'm going to make the pizza dough tomorrow and freeze it, so do you think I'd be able to thaw the pizza dough Thursday, get them into the muffin pans, and then wait to bake them on Friday?  I'm not sure if the pizza dough will go crazy between Thursday and Friday.
