Lax Wedding Planner

I hired a full service wedding planner. She's supposed to be the best in town, but she's driving me nuts.

I always thought standard protocol for returning phone calls and emails was 24 hours. I can understand if she's not available on Saturday night, etc, or that she takes off a few days during the week, but she's regularly just blows me off. I've only contacted her about 5 times in 6 months. But now my wedding is coming up and she's flaking again. Last time this happened she was all apologetic and blamed her text messaging ( I don't know what happened to the call and email).

How long do I wait before contacting her again? Called her yesterday...haven't heard anything. She's gone three weeks with out responding to emails/texts, etc before.

When would you consider firing someone?

Thanks.

Re: Lax Wedding Planner

  • Exactly how far away is your wedding? It's possible she'll get more attentive as the date approaches, but if you're fed up I would give it a few days, then call her and tell her that if you do not hear from her in X days, you will be hiring a new wedding planner, because her response time has been unacceptable.

  • Wedding is October 9.
  • Eehhhhh, with it being peak wedding season and still two months 'til yours she may just not be looking at your wedding as a high priority right now. I'm not saying it excuses her response time, just maybe that's how she's looking at it.

Here's the bottom line: your wedding day is a very, very important day in your life and you need to feel comfortable with the people you're paying a lot of money to to help it go smoothly. If you don't feel comfortable with her, find someone else. But, I would definitely explain to her (assuming she'll actually read the e-mail, listen to the voicemail or whathaveyou) why you're finding someone new.
