Divorce was finalized today and apparently he got the short end of the stick. He has to pay a five figure child support payment a month, and hes not allowed to work outside of TLC. What a sucker. Im pretty certain Kates getting the house as well as custody.

I cant say Im not laughing my ass off at him right now.

Ha!  I find that seriously amusing.  How's he going to get any work now?  Mmmmhm.  I read an article last night that he already tried to get a show of his own, but no one would pick it up.

Hes such a loser. I find this all highly amusing that he pissed off TLC and now is not able to work because of it. I read this week that hes told his lawyers they will have to sue him if they want payment because he has no money.

If he's not allowed to work outside of TLC, doesn't that suck for them, since they have to pay him enough to make his child support payments?  He could probably successfully sue them if they refuse to give him work or allow him to get money somewhere else.

He has a contract with TLC, that part has nothing to do with the divorce settlement it was something he was dealing with previously. He cant make any appearances for money, do shows for money, etc. He HAS to work for TLC, and since he refuses to let jon and kate +8 film, he has no work.

Do not get me wrong, I'm not a Jon fan... but $120,000 (minimum) for child support is a little steep.  Especially with Kate having her own book and TV show, thus her own money.  Not saying he should not have to pay. but that seems a little high?   No?  How much does he make at TLC?

So how I think we will see Jon in jail for not making child support payments because TLC will not pay him and he can't work anywhere else.   Even if he did work someone else, I have a tough time believing he would make enough to cover child support let alone enough for basic living expenses for himself.

Sure, he has a contract with TLC.  That's fantatsic.  However, that shouldn't keep him from getting a job doing something else like pumping gas.  Only the judge awarded support so high that he can't actually do that.

I'm sorry, but screwing over a father isn't exaclty justice.  Although I'm sure Kate is loving it, she's not exactly a deserving, doting parent either.   But hey, she's guaranteed to see her kids' father in jail now.

Seriously, his lawyer must be terrible.  Is TLC is still paying him?  Maybe for DVD sells and such?  Otherwise there's no way he could pay that.

I don't think TLC is saying he can't work, they are just saying he can't work in the public eye.  I'm sure they wouldn't stop him from getting another job in IT like he had before the show (although I presume he would view that as below him at this point, but cry me a fuccking river). 

I am constantly mindboggled by all of the child support settlements celebrities seem to get.  Why on earth does it cost 10 times as much to raise a celebrity baby as a regular baby?  I get that in most cases the fathers have the money, but it seems ridiculous to ask any father to pay five figures a month for his kid just because he can.  IMO it just breeds the mentality of "have a baby by me, baby be a millionaire" among skank whores everywhere.

I'm not a fan of Jon, but the story isn't making much sense right now. How can he be ordered to pay out more in child support than he makes? I thought child support was based on income.

Yeah, I don't think it has to do with not being able to work at say, McD's... just that he can't sell another program to like, the Playboy channel.  There was a previous contract in this instance, so there's not much to be done there.

Seems like he's getting pushed into some sort of deal with TLC

Well, they look at his income history, which is pretty substantial.  My mom pays maintenance for my jerktastic father, and has been unemployed for most of the past 2 years.  They're still taking the same amount of payment for my dad as they were when she was working.  Yes, she went back to court about it- and lost.

Yeah with the Gosselin kids I'm more understanding since there are 8 of them and all, but I think I read recently that Jude Law is also paying 5 figures a month for his new illegitimate child.  If the mother had been impregnated by anyone else she'd be getting a very small fraction of that.  It just doesn't make sense to me that certain children are entitled to lavish lifestyles from day one of life just because of their DNA while my friend only gets like $500 a month in child support to help raise her kid in LA.

Usually child support payments are based on both parents income. The child support guidelines are usually very fair. Maybe he was still paid income from TLC during the divorce? He has to be able to modify down to minimum wage  if he has no income. But, I had no idea states had arbitration for family law. So who knows what happens in Pennsylvania family law.
