Realistic resolutions.

I think the reason most people don't keep their New Year's resolutions is that they make them unrealistic. So this year, I've decided my resolution is going to be to get more sleep. Since I don't think you need to make just one resolution, I'd love to know what everyone else comes up with. So, got any realistic resolutions to share?

Re: Realistic resolutions.

  • My 2009 resolution was to do a chin-up by the end of the year.  I still can't, but I'm a lot closer than I was a year ago, so I'm chalking it up as a success.

My resolution is just to finish my half marathon upright and running.  Bonus resolution is to do it in under 2:10:00.

  • That's a really good point. Mine is to just be less lazy. I'd like to spend less time on the computer / in front of the TV and more time actually doing things.
  • My resolutions is to start being cleaner - vaccuming, straightening up, and putting away my dishes more often rather than leaving them till it absolutely has to be done; working out 4+ days a week and eating properly to lose 20lbs by end of may; stop swearing so much.
  • I stopped making reolutions years ago. It's a waste of my time and energy.
  • Mine is to just be healthy and feel better about myself. I don't have a set weight goal in mind, but I have a set size. So, realistically, I would like to drop a dress size. And feel better about myself. J got me biggest loser for wii and the accessories (jump rope, weights, etc) and I started the day after christmas. And I love it.
  • This is the first year I've done a resolution in years.  I want to live a heathier lifestyle.

It sort unrealistic, but if I can at least excerise 1-2 times a week more than I do right now (which is none), cut down on chicken tenders to only twice a month instead of weekly, only go to the bar once a week not 2-3 times a week.  I will be happy.

If I tired to go cold turkey I would definitely fail.

  • I was talking to my husband lastnight about resolutions and hes decided to try quitting smoking. Im going out to get him some nicorette ventilators today, he likes thelook of them the best. I hope it works because he smokes a LOT.
  • I'm cutting out soda in 2010. Well, except Ginger Ale. I'm giving myself that.

I'm also doing some sort of activity for 30 minutes every single day. If it's walking, mowing, 30DS, whatever. But for 30 minutes every day I'm taking time for myself and burning some calories.

I never meet my goal to lose weight, but I can resolve to cut out soda and take 30 minutes a day to move. If that makes me lose weight, well then there's a bonus.
  • Maybe we should start a weekly check-in to make sure we are all still on track with our resolutions?

The guilt from judging knotties might help me stay on track.

  • Bec, do you have a Wii? I highly recommend Biggest Loser for Wii. The beginning workouts range from 16-20 minutes not including a warm up & cool down session. I just got it and love it. It makes working out easy. They have 4, 8 & 12 week programs to follow. I started with a 4 just to make sure I can stick to it. Love!
  • I do have a wii. I need to look into that. Thanks, Scoetto!
  • I am on the need to clean more boat.  It will help that FI & I will be moving into an apartment together in spring/summer, so if I can reduce my clutter before then and maintain a clean apt/environement thereafter, I think I feel better all around. I am also trying to keep up on my workouts and healthy diet. So far I have done better this holiday season (starting with Thanksgiving) than I ever have. All in all I lost a couple lbs after Thanksgiving and only gained maybe 1 back in the past 2 weeks.

It is definitely good to set small goals to work towards.  And Bec, cutting out the soda will defintely help a lot.  I still drink ginger ale too (minimally) but other than that, it's all water, sparkling water or seltzer.  I get the lemon-lime seltzer and it's just nice when you want something with a little fizz/flavor.

  • My resolutions are to:

-start saving more money/spending less money
    -eating healthier
    -cleaning my house more often
    -going to bed earlier.
  • My resolution is to start pilates again and lose some inches/weight.

I don't care how much, it just has too be some.  My size = obese in Australia and I'm a XL-XXL here in France.

  • Anytime, Bec! It's fun too. The workouts are different (not the same one every day) and there are challenges to do, too. Just like the show. Those are fun too. My first weigh in/elimination (since I started) is on Jan 1. Yikes!
  • hahah sco what happens if you get eliminated?
  • Nebb, I don't know! I hope I'm not eliminated. Grr... I've been doing rather well. Working out daily. I will let you know on Friday :)
  • Nebb I really like the resolution to stop swearing so much- I think I may take that one on, too. I swear like a sailor and it's not appropriate.
  • I'd like to drop 2 to 3 dress sizes by working out more consistently and eating better.

WAIT - you can seriously get eliminated on that game?  I just started it.  I think if I can get eliminated by a video game then I'd probably work even harder to avoid the electronic embarrassment.  LOL.  I mean Wii fit plus already told me my wii fit age is 64.  I don't need a biggest loser ego blow too.
  • My resolutions:

Lose the 20 lbs I've gained since high school-10lbs by June, the rest by next Christmas. If I can lose more, even better

Be tidier-my apartment isn't AWFUL, but I have a habit of leaving things sitting around until I have a huge mess. That needs to change

Save, save, save. Or we won't have any money for the wedding.
  • I stopped using my wiifit way back when because I was tired of hearing the "womp womp" noise after each weigh in telling me how damn obese I am. Screw you wii fit!!

See, I  could have said "fuuck you wii fit" but Im trying here!!
  • My resolutions:

    Eat healthier
    Make daily cardio a habit
Get out of bed the FIRST time my alarm goes off.  No more snooze button in 2010.
Put money in my savings account more regularly, as if I'm paying a bill each month.
Try not to sweat the small stuff so much b/c it's just small stuff.

  • See, I don't let those wii fit noises discourage me. They're actually encouraging. I dunno. I also like the wii fit plus. I got that for Christmas too. Stack, I'm not sure if you get eliminated for real or not. I have done 2 challenges, came in 2nd and first. But as far as the weigh in goes, we'll see about that on Friday :)

  • Get better about spending/saving money and start exercising.  I already signed DH and I up for a 4 week beginner's course in yoga.  We both need to get active so hopefully we can motivate each other.

There may be a couple more by tomorrow night.
  • I'm going quit whoring myself out. By that I mean I am going to cut back on the number of days per week that I stay after school to tutor students. I realized one day earlier this month that I was just doing TOO much. I taught all day, tutored after school, picked my children up from their after-school program, drove home while reading spelling words to one child and helping another child with her math homework, got home and put dinner in the microwave to reheat while finishing up math homework, serve dinner in plastic bowls so we could eat it on the road, then drive 45 minutes to church for rehearsals for 3 different groups in which I was singing. Girls had to take their jammies with them so they could change before we drove home, since it was after bedtime by the time I got out of rehearsals. Yeah, not a day I want to repeat.
My resolve has already been tested, because one of the assistant principals sent me an email asking if I were interested in becaoming a homebound teacher for my student who has been hospitalized since before Thanksgiving. Extra money, sure, but at what expense?

<div>Haha! I almost said "I swear too fuucking much." FWIW, I stopped doing the weigh in/analysis portion of the Wii Fit. I hate that crap.</div>
  • better nighttime regimen including flossing, moisturirer and chap stick

also brushing my hair before I go to work! ha
  • I want to save more money. It is so tempting to keep paying down student loans, but I really want to see a bigger chunk in the bank.

I like the sleep thing. I could sure use that.

Unless you can earn more interest by saving than the interest on your student loans, you're probably better off paying down your loans (while saving some of course).
