So, whatcha reading?

I'm reading Harry Potter and I'm only 100 pages from being done with book 2 (I never saw this movie!) and I'm all antsy to find out what happens. I can't figure out how I skipped the second movie and saw the others, but whatever. I keep wanting to say "Yer a wizard, Harry" to people, too. I'm weird.

I just finished Eat, Pray, Love. It got long in some parts, but all-in-all, I liked it.

Before that was The Stand. I loved it. M-O-O-N, that spells loved it.

So, whatcha reading?

Re: So, whatcha reading?

  • I'm actually right in the middle of THE STAND. I bought it for my nook MONTHS ago and then got side tracked by people giving me books to read (namely the Fire and Ice series, which I still need to read book 5 of). Good to hear you enjoyed it :)
  • I started reading The Red Tent last week and am really enjoying it. It got too heavy to read in the hospital this weekend, so while I was waiting for my mom to have tests done, I started reading the Percy Jackson series. I flew through Lightening Thief and am now reading Sea Monsters.

I miss the Harry Potter series, and this is a good substitute. Not nearly as good, but very enjoyable.
  • I'm reading Animal, Vegetable, Miracle. I'm really enjoying it. Not sure what's going to be next. I have a few others that I'm reading "on the side" and a stack that I got from my mom in the "to read" pile.
  • I couldn't get through The Red Tent. It was just gross.
I'm on the second book in the 50 Shades of Grey trilogy. Which is almost embarssing? But whatevs. They're easy to read and they've prompted lots of spontaneous loving over the weekend so I'll take it.
    Posted by rachers1017
I got them to read on the honeymoon with FI, haha! I started reading the first and was like whoa let me save this for the honeymoon. Haha.

  • Oh I just finished Nora Roberts The Witness...i'm not sure it's one of her better ones though.

  • I didn't really like Eat Pray Love. The only part I liked was Bali, but it took me FOREVER to go that far in the book cause I wasn't really interested in the rest of it. I was interested in the premise, but I just couldn't get into the actual book.
  • I might have to move Shades of Grey up on my list.
  • I started working on 50 Shades of Grey #1 last night.

  • I read Divergent over the weekend. A lot of the ladies on here were talking about it. Was pretty good. Looking forward to the second one.

next up re-read divergent. i actually didn't finish divergent, cause i fell "out" of reading in the fall. i go through spurts. so then i decided to hold off til closer to the second book's release. that way everything would be fresh.
I'm reading several books : Beyond the Western Sun - a good fiction read, Miss Match - a fluffy chick lit, and Matched - young adult dystopian. All three are really good depending what I'm in the mood for at that particular moment.
    Posted by djhar
Loved Matched, liked Crossed (book 2), and am anxious for Reached (book 3) to come out. I actually work in publishing, so I'm hoping I can get my hands on an advance copy...I'm just not patient :P
  • The Righteous by Micheal Wallace. It's about a polygamous community and a murder within the community. It's kind of a murder mystery but dealing with a lot of other aspects. I really like it.

  • I am reading Room by Emma Donoghue. Its an interesting book, its written from the perspective of a 5 year old so at times its a little hard to figure out what hes talking about, however once you get used to that its a great story.
  • I really liked the Girl with the dragon Tattoo, Mandy! I hope you like it too :)

I want to read 50 shades of gray. Everyone's talking about it. I'm not allowed to read ANYTHING but Harry Potter though until I'm done. Anna's orders.

I have heard it's a sweet love story, with some hot scenes mixed in. I know i'm dying to get to reading them!

  • Shades of Grey was originally "published" as Master of the Universe and the main characters, Anastasia and Christian, were Edward and Bella. It's still available for free out there. I just read the fanfiction version because I refused to pay $9.99 for it. Supposedly the fanfiction version is 89% the same as the Shades of Grey stuff. It looks like MOTU Part 1 is the first two books and MOTI Part 2 is the third book.

  • India Calling by Anad Giridharadas, about an Indian-American who moved back to India after college. It's for school, but it's pretty good so far.
I just finished 11/22/63 from Stephen King. I wasn't a fan. It seemed too long. I'm starting to read "The Art of Racing in the Rain" by Garth Stein. And what is with 50 Shades of Grey? It's every where now and I have no clue what it is.
    Posted by Beaniebeach
I LOVED "The Art of Racing in the Rain! I thought the race car part of the story would bore me but I didn't think it took away from the story at all.

  • Every time someone brings up 50 Shades of Grey, i think they're talking about Shades of Grey by Jasper Fforde and get SO excited that someone else reads his books. and then i'm sad.
  • I'm on a Bronte kick. I just read Jane Eyre, now I'm reading Villette. I'm going to fluff next, haven't yet decided what.

  • I'm not reading anything because I just finished my book and The Wind Through The Keyhole comes out tomorrow and I"m dying to read it. I can't wait to get back to Dark Tower land. Anyone know if I can download it at midnight on release day? How does that work for Kindle - this is the first time I've been waiting on a book to release.

I can see why gross would be the word to describe it. My brother was the one to recommend it to me, he had to read it in a religion and literature class. I can deal with the gross-ness, but I can see why others couldn't.

Night Circus is amazing, loved it!! I very rarely get sad when I'm done reading a book, but that was one I didn't want to end.
