Re: So, whatcha reading?

• I am really liking the dragon lady.  like a lot.  people were saying it was so dry and boring for the first 100 pages and i've actually been enjoying it.  i have been so busy so i have only been able to give it about 10 minutes every day.  but i am hoping to sit down and do some serious reading SOON.

<div>Mandy, it's about Dinah, who was the daughter of Leah and Jacob in Genesis. I don't really know what's gross about it. I  mean they talk about having periods and childbirth, but it's mostly a story about old testament women. </div>

• After Fifty Shades of Grey, I'm looking at starting the Dark Tower series! I've got so many books to read on my nook now, I'm slightly obsessed with reading. I'd rather read than watch TV these days.

I just flipped through all of the books I've read on my nook since I got it last Christmas. I have weird tastes apparently:

The Bang Bang Club
Diary of a Mad Fat Girl (written by a MS writer, don't read it, it sucks)
The High Heels series
Something Borrowed
Hunger Games Series
Switched (Trylle Series #1)
Scandal Sheet
Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble
Toil and Trouble
Are you there vodka, it's me Chelsea
The Time Travelers Wife
The Help
Chelsea, Chelsea, Bang, Bang
Animal Farm
The Knife of Never Letting Go
The Giver
Water for Elephants
To Kill a Warlock
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
When will Jesus bring the pork chops?
The Lovely Bones
Twilight
Heaven is for Real
The Proper Care and Feeding of Husbands
Lies that Chelsea Handler Told me
Confessions of a prarie biitch

and then of course The Stand, E,P,L, HP1 and now HP2
• So, LDY, when will Jesus bring the pork chops?

• Jesus is already dead and stuff - I mean, he already came back once. I'm sure that took a lot of energy. Plus, people keep trying to have him make appearances and shiit. The life of a diety doesn't really allow much time for making delicious pork chops.

It's by George Carlin :)

Rachers, I don't want to burst your bubble but the third book in the 50 Shades of Grey trilogy is not very good. I just finished the trilogy. And I loved the first 2 books. They were so easy to read. The third book gave my whip lash with so many different random stories going on. Still worth reading, but I felt like my brain was on over load when I was done with each chapter.

It was way too much talk about bodily fluids for me. I wanted to gag. As I said I didn't get very far in, so maybe it's not all like that, but I didn't care to find out.
• yeah, i don't think i'd be that interested in that book.  i am glad i know what you mean by gross!  haha.  i sometimes like gross stuff.

• Question to all you 50 Shades of Grey readers - I am generally pretty anti-romance/erotica (much more of a horror/sci-fi/fantasy person...or, randomly, historical fiction...).  I'm intrigued by all the buzz though.  Should I check it out or would someone who's generally pretty unimpressed by those genres probably just be better off skipping it?

I would not consider this a romance novel, at is way to aggressive for that. I read this as more of a behavioral novel. (if that makes sense) Since it is about a lifestyle that I dont know much about I was completely swept up in it. Mostly because I wanted to understand why people would behavior/ act this way. The erotica stuff is mainly in the first book when a lot of "teaching" is taking place.

I say try it. I didnt think I would read it so quickly but I did.

I read all three books in the 50 shades of Grey series this weekend. I loved every book and it was well worth the money IMO. I finished it last night and I am seriously considering re-reading them all again. It was strange but I really loved the characters. I heard on the radio this morning some guy from Vampire Diaries might play Christian when they make into a movie.. Which will have to be rated freakin XXX. I just can't see anyway around it.

I'd still watch it.
I'm reading Harry Potter and I'm only 100 pages from being done with book 2 (I never saw this movie!) and I'm all antsy to find out what happens. I can't figure out how I skipped the second movie and saw the others, but whatever. I keep wanting to say "Yer a wizard, Harry" to people, too. I'm weird. I just finished Eat, Pray, Love. It got long in some parts, but all-in-all, I liked it.  Before that was The Stand. I loved it. M-O-O-N, that spells loved it. So, whatcha reading?
Posted by LDYGTR13
I've been driving everyone crazy with that lately. "M-O-O-N, that spells bacon and it's time for breakfast!" :-)

Just finished the Stand and it reignited my Stephen King love, so I'm thinking of Dark Tower series next.

I stopped at the HP 1 movie also though I've read as far as 4.  I'm saving up the rest, one a year and sometime in  2015 after I read the last one I'll do a movie marathon on a rainy weekend.

Curious if you're a Dr L fan.  I've recommended that book to 4 friends with marriages in crisis.  Three refused to read it-- the one who did read it, is the only one still married.  Could just be a coincidence, I guess :-)

I rolled my eyes a lot at that book, to be honest. I don't remember much of it, but I did get a few lessons out of it, I think. She did sort of make men out to be idiots though...but then there were guys who were agreeing, so who knows!? I want to read another one of her book though, just to see how I really feel about her.

It's the books that the HBO show Game of Thrones is based on (you may have known that, but I figured I'd say it in case not).  It's kind of fantasy-esque, but the fantasy elements are really kind of light (some fantastical creatures, a little magic here and there, but mostly human characters).  It more reads like some crazy historical fiction, I think.  It's about a made up land with all these kings and royals and such fighting for control of the land - lots of murder, wars, intrigue, backstabbing, that sort of thing.  I really like it, but it is VERY confusing (there are about 20 million characters, some of whom show up for like 1 chapter and then don't appear again until 2 books later), and I find it to be a little tedious and slow moving at times.  But, other than that, there are some really awesome, fascinating characters, and the overall arc of the story is really good.  It's enough to keep me reading (though I'm waiting for paperback or until I can get a library copy of the nook book to read the fifth - the hardcover is just way too heavy to be bringing on the subway).

• I was really into Zombie books for a while, but I was having really crazy dreams and basically trying to fight off the zombies, which were actually H.  So he asked if I would take a break.

Now I'm reading the Game of Throne Book.  I watch the show, so I already know what's going to happy...but it's helping me understand who everyone is better.

I will read Insurgent next when it comes out.

I read The Red Tent about 7 years ago and remember really enjoying it.  I do not remember it being gross, but I remember it making me feel pretty happy that I live today and not back then.  Who really wants to sit on some straw during your period....not this girl.

LDY, you have to read all the HP books. I love them and have read them about 10 times each.  Now that they are on the Kindle, I will rebuy them all and then read them over and over again.

I'm also reading a lot of books on vermicomposting and gardening.  I gotta lrean to keep my worms happy!
• I loved The Rent Tent.

When I get home tonight, a YA novel called 13 Reasons Why will be waiting for me. I am SO excited for this - it;s about a girl who commits suicide, but before she does she creates 13 cassette tapes talking about her life and why she made the choice she did - and mails it to people she thinks were involved/hold some responsible for her death. SO EXCITED.
