Destination Invitation

So our wedding is in February in Key West and there will be a small guest list of 50. Most of the guests have spoken to us about the wedding and the travel dates.

I have been told that invites should be sent out 6 weeks before the wedding. Is this the same case for destination weddings? Also, six weeks before our wedding is December 25th and I don't want them to get jumbled up with Christmas cards.

Any words of advice?

Re: Destination Invitation

  • 8-10 weeks is a good time frame for weddings..  With yours being a DW and it being xmas time when they are to go out I would pick the 10 week range

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • 6-8 weeks before the wedding is pretty standard for invitations.  You could stretch it to 10 weeks if you want to get them out early.  If you send out save the dates about 6-9 months before the wedding though, or even a mass e-mail with the important dates and hotel info, then you should be totally fine.

  • If you're worried about invites getting lots in the mail, I would send them closer to 8 weeks out, rather than 6.

Holy Crap. We survived the first year!

We sent our DW invites out about 10 weeks before the wedding.  This gave everyone enough time to get the best rates on flights and hotel rooms.  Even though everyone had access to all of the travel details on our wedding website, we noticed that most didn't book anything until they received the actual invite.

  • I'm having one too and from what I was told, 8-10 weeks before the wedding should be good, unless you aren't doing save the dates, in which case, it should be 12-14 weeks in advance, especially for holiday weekends (if yours is). Hope it helps!
