Am I the only one who does not get Taylor Swift?

I just can't stand her voice?  I do admit I've only heard her on award shows, but for the life of me I can't see all the hype.

Please tell me I'm not alone on this.

  • She sounds HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE on live shows. I'm not a huge fan of her much period, but live, man....she sounds SO BAD.

  • I think she's adorable!!!  I don't really care for her music.  I don't seek out her music, but if it comes on the radio I won't immediately change it.

  • well, I don't like her but i like 2 of her songs I think it is. I can only stand her when I hear it on the radio.. I can't get into it when she's on tv. so you are not alone.

  • I love her and her music, but I don't think she sounds the best live. I give her a lot of credit for carrying herself as well as she does in the public eye.

  • I wish daily that Ursula the sea witch would steal her voicebox and feed it to some creepy eels. So no, you are not alone. I'd rather jab my one working eardrum with a knitting needle than listen to that freakin nasal banshee.
  • I think she's kinda cute, and I like a few of her songs.
  • She was hilarious on SNL.
  • i love her. she is so cute and seems genuine. i haven't seen the grammys yet though.

  • THANK YOU. I was just watching her perform on the Grammys. She was flat, sharp, nasal, and just plain all over the place. Stevie Nicks is probably wondering how this is the It girl of pop right now. She seems sweet, but I think if she wasn't cute she wouldn't be as popular.

  • I saw her once and SNL and she was godawful.  The next time (when she hosted), she wasn't too bad.

I think it's a shame that she's making shitloads of money when her voice obviously needs so much work in the studio.  There are many, MANY people who sound amazing live and they are the ones that deserve the fame and recognition for their talent.

  • well maybe I need to hear her on the radio.  But I really do not listen to the radio too often.  My compute is all of 5 minutes.  Barely enough time for 2 songs.

Okay, I want to change my answer to Bec's. That was awesome.

Sucrets, I was wondering what you thought of her singing. Glad you chimed in. :)

  • I was thinking that she sounded ok, but she must have something special going on if she's got Stevie Nicks singing backup for her on the Grammys..

  • I love her, I think she's a great role model for girls, sweet and genuine.  Her music is great, too and I generally hate country.  But I will admit that her live performances aren't as good as her recorded ones.

  • I LOVE her. I think she's fabulous, she's the cutest thing ever and I always love what she's wearing... that being said, though I own and frequently listen to all her music, she does suck live. However, I commend her for writing all of her own stuff... and for singing with Stevie Nicks, because she's my favourite ever.

Really???   I thought she was awful.

She might be cute, but I would rather see an ugly person with a great voice than look at a cute girl with an 'okay' voice.

  • I don't get her. I also think that some of her make-up makes her look part Asian. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but I just don't think she is.

This times 1000.  I love her and wish she had been my BFF when I was 16.

I disagree with this.  You shouldn't have to hear some canned, processed recording to like or respect an artist.

I get that she writes all of her own stuff, but she should honestly stick to that.

Great artists sound exactly the same live.

  • I dunno, honestly, the only people I've seen live who sound the same as they do recorded are Bon Jovi, Spice Girls and Christina Aguilara, everyone else lost something in translation. I wanted to stab my ears when I saw the Stones, and U2 is freaking godawful.

Very true.  I was not really serious.   I agree that they better sound as good if not better live.

  • Exactly, Sucrets. Writing lyrics well and singing them well are two very different things. She's mastered one and murdered the other. I honestly think my ears would bleed if I ever made it through an entire song, whether live or over-produced bullshitradio versions.
  • (I'll admit that I do recognise the Spice Girls weren't great singers to begin with, and there's a whole helluva lot of background synthesizing going on... but still...)

They have pop-ified many of her songs. I prefer the country versions, but they must have done it to appeal to a bigger audience.

  • I loved the Rolling Stones live.  Of course I was under the influence, so that might have had something to do with it.

I like Dave Matthews live.  Actually I think better than recorded, but do not listen to his recored stuff very often.

  • why do you keep asking "am i the only one?" about obvious shiit? the chick can't sing. clearly. so you can't be the only one. just like those hideous see-through dresses.
  • I thought they were terrible, I saw then at SARS-fest in Toronto and they were the headliners and totally got shown up by just about everyone else. It was awful.
