Re: Good morning!

  • Good morning! I am tired. Tomorrow is my sleep in day (9 am) so I can't wait.
  • Good morning! I haven't been to bed yet. I'm going to be so dead today.

  • Morning, and happy birthday Mica!

I went home yesterday and slept 2 hours, then went to bed at 8:30 and I'm still exhausted. Looks like another nap is in store for me today. That's about all the news I have, other than I've been trying not to type more than necessary lately or move my hands. For some reason my carpal tunnel/arthritis/whatever the hell is wrong with me issues are flaring up and I have stabbing pains in my fingers, wrists, and arms 24/7. I'm really over this crap.
  • Thank you, ladies!  I'm feeling a little old right now, but I'll get over it soon and start celebrating.
  • It's good to be mod on my birthday.  ;)

Sesh, have you tried the wrist braces?  I know a lot of people who get a lot of relief from their carpal tunnel symptoms from just wearing hard braces to sleep at night.
  • Good morning. Fiancé and I are going to the bank today to try and get pre-approved for a mortgage so we can start looking at houses more seriously. We are also going to look into savings account options for our niece(1yr). Any idea if we need anything for the pre-approvement process? I figure a couple paystubs but I'm clueless beyond that.

Thanks, I'm glad I asked because it will take a while to find all that. I appreciate it, and happy birthday :)

Yeah, I have them, but they hurt after awhile because I can't move my wrists (I know that's the point, but when I take them off in the morning my wrists crack and pop like you wouldn't believe). Plus they do nothing for my fingers or elbows.

I also have some medicated pads for arthritis that help some, but I usually only wear them with the braces or else they won't stay stuck on my skin. And I can't wear braces during the day because they affect my typing.
  • Sesh maybe getting one of those keyboards that are split down the middle and turned inward would help.  My mom said it only took a day or two to get used to typing that way and that it made a huge difference in how her hands, wrists and elbows felt after a long day of typing.

Stacks, you mean those super weird keyboards with the big space in the middle? There are a few of those here. I'm not sure I could get used to them since I don't type "right" (I don't keep my fingers in the right places and my hands are all over the leyboard). But I might have to try it out of this doesn't get better.

Actually I should probably get one at home and practice there, so it doesn't affect my production here until I get used to it.

Yes, those.  I've typed on one here at work a few times and it wasn't pretty but definitely got easier much faster than I thought it would.

ETA:  Also, maybe try positioning your keyboard differently.  Is it in a roll drawer under your desk?  Maybe move it on top of your desk, or vice versa.  Or move your chair up or down for a day so you aren't in the same exact position.  Or maybe even one of those gel pad things that go right in front of your keyboard to rest your wrists on.  (I'm mostly just thinking out loud for ways to relieve stress on body parts)
  • This is when I miss CA and the OSHA-mandated injury-prevention staff.  At every job I had, I had the option of having someone come to my office and make sure that the desk, computer and chair would not cause work-related injury.  That does not happen in FL.
  • Happy Day, Mica! DH's is tomorrow and mine is Friday. Let the celebrsting begin!

  • That would be awesome, mica. They really need that for my job, since everyone here is on the computer all day long. And the setup is really poor for preventing injury.

I have the gel thing for my keyboard and mousepad, which definitely helps. And I got this exercise pad thing that you sit on for balance and to help keep your spine straight (not like a big ball, it's small). Our chairs suck, but I wouldn't bring in a nice one because it would be stolen within a day. And no roll-out drawers, stacks. It's just a cubicle desk. I have to raise my chair so my feet don't even touch the floor in order to reach, so I keep my feet on the monitor under the desk. At least I can raise or lower the monitors, which helps.
  • Yay for birthdays, Sarah!

Sesh, if all those adjustments do not provide adequate relief, the next step is medical evaluation.  :\  Have you seen anyone about this stuff?
  • Hump day.

Thats all I got. I have a marathon of meetings today and then a ton of work to do. Busy days are good though, they go faster.

H broke our bed again this morning, so I am thinking it may be time to buy a new one.

Yeah, quite a few. The regular doc suggested the braces and gave me the medicated pads. The physical therapist suggested the chair pad thingy and some exercises. The chiropractor adjusted my neck (atlas bone) to reduce the headaches and neck/back pain, and did some massage stuff on my arms that hurt like a bitch but helped later on.

A friend of ours is a massage therapist and he showed me some massages to do, and ones that H can do, to relieve tension in the nerves (certain types of massages from the elbows down to the fingertips that also hurt like a bitch). I told H I need him to do them again tonight. Ha, he was doing a massage at Christmas, in our room at my mom's. My mom was in the kitchen (we thought she'd gone to bed) and she heard me saying "Ow..ow, that hurts...ow, stop it, jerk" and cussing over and over again and busted in all momma-bear style thinking something was wrong.

All the docs definitely helped. I think I just need a new job.
  • I agree LTB, definitely get a workout in tonight.  It'll help with the soreness.
  • Good morning ladies, it's only Wednesday.  This week feels like it's totally dragging.

    Happy Birthday Mica!!

  • Morning!  The first day of school went ok.  I'm dumb and forgot to find out what the required materials were for the micro lab, so I had to buy the lab manual new.  Oh well.  Apparently I need a lab coat too.

Happy birthday Mica!  Also, a question: are most lab coats cotton?

  • Morning!

It was hard to go to work this morning.  No name climbed up me twice while I was putting on my scarf and gloves to go out the door.  Sat on my shoulder and rubber on my face.  She's hilarious and so cute.  H gets to snuggle with her all day.  No fair!

  • Aw Habs that's so cute!

Cfas that sucks, I hope things work out in the end and that your new director realizes they're coming into a new place with different everything and that not everything can be the same.
  • Aw, habs, that sounds adorable. I had a kitten that would sit on my shoulder. Whisky likes to perch on my shoulder but he's too big for sitting.
  • Happy Birthday Mica!
