  • p2, basically think of a fried meatball with some sauce in the center, possibly veggies  (like peas) worked into the meat mixture,  that's given a rice crust before it's fried. they are tasty. and very Italian
  • Manda, I'm going to PM you an AMAZING corn pudding recipe.

Yes.  I'm drooling thinking about it.  Our whole family fights over who's taking how many home at the end of the night.    I'm so excited.

Google isn't very helpful with the riceballs.

  • I love risotto balls.  I assume they're the same fezz.  I should learn how to make these.  And bring them to H's family christmas next time we celebrate with them.  I'll outdo his italian grandfather's TERRIBLE risotto.

  • 1. What is one "bigger ticket" item you asked for? An e-reader.  It's the one thing I really, really want.
    2. What is a must-have food item for Christmas? This can be a snack, dessert, appy, etc. My mom's Chocolate Dream cookies, made with baking chocolate, coconut, and oats.  Delicious.
    3. What is your favorite alcoholic drink? Bahama Mama.
    4. What did you buy your H/Fi/BF this year? A piece of art for his "man cave" when we move into a two-bedroom and two DVD box sets.  I might go out later and pick him up something else when I'm out as well.  I still have shopping left to do.

Mmm risotto balls.  Those sound yum.

My dad also makes spadini.  With chicken and veal.  (I don't eat veal.)  But those are also amazing.

  • H's family doesn't do a lot of italian meals on major holidays.  I guess it wasn't a big deal.  I think that H and I should totally intermingle my french canadien and his italian side and make some kick ass holiday meals.  Except he's usually working on all holidays.  Boo.

His grandpa makes a really nasty risotto that a) has NO flavour cause they make their own chicken stock and it's damn near clear like water.  and b) has bits of chicken liver in it.

    VOM.

And grandpa gets upset if you don't like it.

    1. What is one "bigger ticket" item you asked for?

I haven't decided, but I might get a nice pair of snow boots.  Like Columbia ones that are more than I would usually spend.  We decided to stick to a budget this year, so no huge item for me.

    2. What is a must-have food item for Christmas? This can be a snack, dessert, appy, etc.

    My Mom's taco dip!

    3. What is your favorite alcoholic drink?

In general or at Christmas?  At Christmas, my SIL and I have my Mom make us Old Fashioneds.  She makes a simple syrup and mixes that with Southern Comfort and cherries.  It's so good!

    4. What did you buy your H/Fi/BF this year?

He's getting a new pair of tennis shoes and some jeans.  I'm not sure what else.  We'll probably just go shopping after Christmas.

  • 1. What is one "bigger ticket" item you asked for? I really didn't ask for anything bigger ticket. We got so much for the wedding this year (just a few months ago no less), thre isn't much more we need. And we agreed on a limit for each other, so probably the biggest ticket item I asked for was the boxed set of the first 6 Harry Potter movies at Target for $50.

    2. What is a must-have food item for Christmas? This can be a snack, dessert, appy, etc. Hmmm. This dried beef dip I make. And my great-grandma's fruitcake. My dad & I make it now, my Grandpap made it for years. I think I've discussed it here before, it's not like the stuff you buy in stores. It's dark, spicy goodness.

    3. What is your favorite alcoholic drink? Wine. Red.

    4. What did you buy your H/Fi/BF this year? A Steelers thermal from Old Navy, a rolling pin (handcrafted, got it on a trip we were on), a subscription renewal to Cooking Light, a Tin Man (Wizard of Oz) ornament from Hallmark, a gift certificate to our local (delicious) soft pretzel shop, socks, gloves, a "Groupon" that is worth $40 of books on Simon & Schuster's website (paid $20 for it, Groupon is awesome!) and then I made him an ornament out of some of the leftover fabric from when they altered my wedding dress!

  • In Response to Knottie Christmas Poll:
    1. What is one "bigger ticket" item you asked for?
    A pasta maker
    2. What is a must-have food item for Christmas? This can be a snack, dessert, appy, etc.
A beef rib roast, it's just not Christmas without it, you know?
    3. What is your favorite alcoholic drink?
    Mimosas yummy
    4. What did you buy your H/Fi/BF this year?
I got him salt from around the world, he's seriously addicted to salt
  • 1. What is one "bigger ticket" item you asked for?  I asked for one of several DVD sets on my wish list - "Pride and Prejudice," "Elizabeth R," "Six Wives of Henry VIII," or any of the Dragon Dynasty releases that I don't already have.  I told him to pick which to get.

    2. What is a must-have food item for Christmas? This can be a snack, dessert, appy, etc.   For my family, it was always nacatamales (Nicaraguan version of tamales) on Christmas Eve.  Haven't had one of those in years, so we've been doing Mexican style tamales instead.

    3. What is your favorite alcoholic drink?  I'm sure I didn't make this up, but I make it at home all the time - vodka, Limoncello and cranberry juice.  I guess it would be close to a Cosmopolitan.

    4. What did you buy your H/Fi/BF this year?  I bought H a Bluetooth headset for his phone and the CD of the Scott Pilgrim soundtrack. The big gift is next month - Ozzy Osbourne is playing in Vegas on his birthday and I'm now able to get tickets thanks to an unexpected holiday pay bonus *squee*.
  • 1. What is one "bigger ticket" item you asked for? Well, it's not specifically for Christmas, but we want a KitchenAide stand mixer. We need more baked goods, damnit!

    2. What is a must-have food item for Christmas? This can be a snack, dessert, appy, etc.  Stuffing, mashed potatoes, ham, Black Forest cookies if I can get them.

    3. What is your favorite alcoholic drink?  Screwdriver. I'm not too big of a drinker, though, so even when I do drink, it's very rarely.

    4. What did you buy your H/Fi/BF this year? A nice Irish pocket watch. He already knows what it is because he knows where I got his gift, and he's been drooling over the pocket watches there forever.
