PSA!

I have something very important to say.

I consider myself to be a Macaroni and Cheese connoisseur. I love all types of mac and cheese, from the cheap easy mac to the white truffle mac and cheese.

Here is the PSA:

Don't be fooled, the new Kraft Homestyle Mac and Cheese is just boxed mac and cheese with bread crumbs. Thats it. Has that same neon orange color. BOO!

Re: PSA!

  • AW MAN......I totally almost bought that yesterday too!  I hate the box mac and cheese and I was really wrestling with myself in the grocery wondering if I wanted to pay over $2 for that stuff because it would magically be different.

So glad I didn't get it now!
  • Epic fail.  That's such a cop out.  It takes a lot more than just breadcrumbs and neon coloring to make homestyle mac and cheese.

  • I tried that stuff a few months ago and it was pretty bad. The box mac and cheese was way better (in the professional opinion of myself and DH). I'll stick with my $0.99 cheapo stuff, thankyouverymuch.

  • I hadn't even seen that stuff yet.  But I probably would have been tempted.  My mom's homemade mac and cheese is the bomb.  The only boxed kind I like is the Velveeta shells and cheese.  Yum.

  • How disappointing!

Speaking of baked mac n cheese, I've made this recipe a billion times and it never ever fails.

  • It tastes like velveeta shells and cheese, but they have you melt butter and add a "seasonings packet" (aka flour) and make a roux.. but for some reason it doesn't bind the mac and cheese at all and its rough.

I love my homemade mac and cheese recipe, but I thought maybe this would be faster and semi equal? not at all.

fyi this is the recipe I use and EVERYONE that has had it has loooved it. I up the amount of cheese and cook the onions before I add them.

  • Yeah we've tried this, in both flavors available.  It does taste like the Velveeta mac and cheese, with more steps involved.  Don't get me wrong, it tastes good, but nothing like homemade mac and cheese, or even close to it.  I much prefer the original Kraft mac & chesse, more specifically, the spirals.

  • Damnit, Rosie... that recipe ended up making me looking at this: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/paula-deen/gorilla-bread-recipe/index.html

  • MMMMMMMMMMMMM that looks good.

Although this is my favorite Paula dean recipe. FI and I were watching her show once and she made this, and we HAD to look it up. I love the variety of comments on the burger.

  • H and I almost bought that the other day too. Glad we didn't now, that is so lame. We used a recipe that was on the back of a Quick and Easy Macaroni, and it was delicious. I believe it was just a jar of alfredo sauce, a package of cheese, and some parmesan. We added some chicken too. I'll have to try some of your guys' recipes!

  • I have a pretty quick and easy recipe in one of my cookbooks for mac and cheese, and now that I've had that and I've seen how incredibly easy it is, I don't know why anybody would want to do anything different.

  • I had that the other night, but we didn't put the bread topping on it.  It was pretty good, but I've always liked the packaged types of mac and cheese.  Not really much different than their regular mac and cheese though, other than slightly larger noodles.

But that Paula Deen burger-on-donuts recipe... it scares me a little.  It reminds me of the KFC Double Down.  http://www.kfc.com/doubledown/ Like a heart attack waiting to happen XD

  • Got a bunch of these for free at the mall.  It was DISGUSTING.  I actually much prefer the regular, powder cheese version or making my own cheese sauce.  I plan to use the rest of the packages just for the pasta and throw the rest away.
  • I don't think I could eat that donut burger... blech

  • My roommate is a consultant for Kraft and brings home stuff like that for us to try all the time.  We didn't try the homestyle mac n' cheese but we did try one of the other flavors (I think it was a parmesean-type dish) and it was actually pretty good!  Very rich though...I could barely finish my small bowl!

I definitely couldn't bring myself to eat the whole thing, but I would probably be willing to try it.  I thought a McGriddle would be nasty, but its good.   I don't eat them though.  Over the weekend I had a maple bacon donut that actually had bacon on top of a donut.  It sounded disgusting and I had to be forced to try it, but it was beyong amazing.  It tasted like french toast with bacon.  I don't know how people ever think of concocting things like that (seriously, a burger on a donut?), but they are usually pretty good.  Disgusting calorie wise though.

  • McGriddles are pure awesome.  That's all I have to say in this thread because mac & cheese makes me want to gag.

[QUOTE]You guys are insane.  I love the new Mac & Cheese!  You have to do the oven finish and it will taste homemade!

Hmm, I did skip the oven finish, so that could be the difference.  I figured it was only for the breadcrumbs to bake so I didn't bother.  I guess I'll have to go buy some more then.
