People are fuucking stupid

Who brings a 5 YEAR OLD to go see Avatar???

The poor kid was asking "is it over yet?" about 10 minutes in.  The mom kept on shushing him and telling him to put on his 3D glasses because it'd get better.  He'd rather be watching Thomas the fuucking Tank Engine, and there's nothing wrong with that.

After someone said 'shiit', he said "someone said a bad word" and about 20 minutes later, the mom took him and the 3 other kids she had with her out.  Thank GOD.  What a waste of her money.

Oh, and someone puked like 10 minutes before the end of the movie.  Twice.  Thank god I couldn't smell it.

Other than that, the movie was really good.

How's it hangin' around here?

  • What a bummer that must have been for the parents who thought he'd sit through it. The kid actually still sounds better behaved than many adult movie patrons though! Ugh, that's gross about the puke. Glad you liked the movie though! H is going to see it with some friends, so I don't have to. I'm sure it's good, just NMS.

    Oh, and hi sucrets!

  • I hate people that do that.

When the last lord of the Rings movie came out, I went to the late night showing to avoid the noisy, family type crowds.  Sure enough, right in front of me was a family with a bunch of kids that looked under 10 and one looked no more than 5.  I'm sorry, not really a kid movie.  The poor little one was scared of "the monsters" when he should have been home. a 3 1/2 hour movie that doesn't end until 1 am, is NOT the place for children.

wow.  I went off.  Sorry for the rant.

    besides that, how are you?
  • Thank god I go to a movie theater that doesn't really like children. (Expensive, doesn't show many kids' movies, charges full price for kids at R-rated films, charges full price for children under 2.)

  • Hey everyone!  I'm so impressed that people are here!

Sorry, I got distracted by Julie's GORGEOUS wedding video!

I had no desire to see the movie, but I enjoyed it and am glad that I saw it.  My moh's h is a film person and he told us about how revolutionary this was and explained it in terms that I could understand.

The kid was quite well behaved, even when he was laying down and almost kicking my bag.  I'm glad that she left, though.  The kid was whining that he was tired - the movie started at 7:30 and it was probably close to his bedtime!

All I have heard about that movie is that some people think that it portrays the US military in a bad light? Honestly, that's all I've heard.

EDIT - There was a crying baby in the theatre when I went to see The Blind Side and that was pretty annoying. Thankfully, the mother took him/her out about 30 minutes in.

  • Aw, gretch, Bryan told me about the whole Republican conspiracy theory against the movie.

It's a shame that people won't go and see it because of that - it's a really good movie and I enjoyed it a lot.

  • Yeah, I'm pretty sure I heard that on the radio when we got into MIL's car the other day.

  • I haven't heard that theory. But I have heard that there's a computer system that can sort of re-do older movies in this new 3-D format, and James Cameron is already working on doing a re-release of a 3-D version of Titanic. No joke.

  • Hm, I did not hear about this theory. Is it possible to enjoy the movie without the political overtones? I prefer to be oblivious to stuff like that if I'm watching/reading it for entertainment purposes.

  • Which radio station, Gretch?  ;)

mery - apparently this was revolutionary because it was filmed with a camera that has 2 lenses (like our eyes).  I don't know how they'll translate old stuff to it, but the way it was filmed will perhaps change movies forever.

Yes.  It's a world where there are big blue people.  It doesn't take a lot to suspend your reality.

  • I saw Avatar and I was lucky no young children I could see ( I went to a 10:15pm showing.  But I will say that the movie made me nausous.  It took a good hour to adjust to it.
About the military being seen in bad light,  It is a typical, we want something that is worth alot and we will be bullys to get it.  The people didn't seem like  military as much as hired contractors.
  • This is the exact reason that I decided not to take Ben yesterday. He's dying to see it, mainly becaues of stupid fuucking McDonald's happy meal toys and their accompanying commercials. I had concerns about whether or not it would be too intense for him and then I realized that it was 2.5 hours long. Ben is awesome in movie theaters, but I would be delusional if I thought he wouldn't get fidgety and ask a lot of questions.
  • Do people not hire babysitters anymore?
  • Why would you pay a babysitter $5 an hour when you can just take the damn kid with you for $8, Stack? Are you telling me Short Stack never got to see Paranormal Activity? You are a horrible mother.
  • cew - I think it's one thing if Ben WANTS to see it.  A kid who wants to see it probably wouldn't be asking if it was over yet 10 minutes into it.

He really was pretty good considering everything, but I still think it wasn't the right place for him.

How old is Ben, again?  I forget.  Embarassed

  • Yes Bec - count me in as worst mother of the year!!!!  Mr Stack asked me yesterday was Lil Stack big enough to go see Princess and the Frog and my response was she's big enough for us to buy it for her when it comes out on DVD.  She just turned 2, I wouldn't expect any 2, 3 or 4  year old to sit through an entire movie that was age appropriate, much less a movie that they didn't care to see.  Don't get me wrong, I'm dying to be able to take her to the movies, I think she'd have a blast and be better then most her age, but I'm going to wait another year or so.
  • Sucrets - he's 5 too. And he would probably really enjoy it, but I was just too worried that he would disturb other people since he likes to ask questions and has yet to fully master the art of whispering. We would have gone to the 1:00 movie to minimize the crowd, but still.

And I hate parents that take their kids to adult movies instead of just getting a babysitter. It just seems so selfish to me. I went to see a 10 pm showing of Apocolypto a few years ago and there were several 4 and 5 year olds. That is definitely not a kids movie and it pissed me off.

It really does bug me, though that they market this movie to kids (via Happy Meal toys, etc), but it's rated PG-13 and is clearly an adult movie. I just don't get it.
  • GG, I heard on the radio that apparently the DC gay/lesbian community was boycotting the movie. They were doing this by buying out all of the shows and then not showing up to the movie (because that's an effective way of not contributing money to the movie makers).
Why were they boycotting it? Because they were miffed that the couples portrayed in the movie were heterosexual, and why would the directors assume that the majority of relationships in the future would be hetero?

    Sigh...

I want to see it :) It looks like Fern Gully meets Transformers. Plus I  like sci-fi pretty things.
