Re: Whats everyone up to tonight?

  • Sun they are not. I don't think. I have not tasted a rum ball before.

  • Awww I was just informed by my aunt (who is an incredible cook), that I made the best roast she has ever had!
  • What type of roast was it? Yay for fantastic compliments! Can I come to dinner at your house?

  • It was a prime rib roast my aunt gave me on the condition that I cook it. It was huge, over 5lbs. I made mashed potatoes and carrots with it. My husband is working late and I just called to tell him I put some aside for him and hes so excited to get home. Red meat, gravy, mashed potatoes and carrots are his ultimate favourite foods in life!

If you can get up here to Canadaland, you are more than welcome to dinner.
  • Mmmm I have a roast thawing for tomorrow. I think I am going to make a pot of chili for H to eat when he gets home from work. I am not a big fan of chili.

  • Awesome picture Salt!
  • What herbs/spices did you use to roast with it?

It's so not roast weather here... I am so jealous of your snow and roast weather!

And I would love to visit Canadaland, although I'm not sure when we will make it there.

  • I say truffles.

  • Nebb, that meal sounds awesome. If I hurry, I can make it there by tomorrow.  After all, I've got my suitcase almost packed, I know exactly where my passport is...just have to change my reservations from DFW to, um, what's the closest airport? Montreal, Ottowa, Toronto? Forgive my ignorance here.
  • Amazing...Scott just got a call from "commonwealth of virginia" about his stuck car. Apparently a tractor trailer ran off the road and stopped right behind his car. The lady "thinks" the trailor didn't make contact but got the drivers info just in case. His car has been towed to a holding lot and while we will have to pay about $100 for a towing fee, we "shouldn't" have to pay the $500 car abandonment fee....*explodes*
  • Wow, there's really no luck for you guys tonight, is there Katie?

And ahh ok ricks. The cake balls sensation obviously is yet to make it to our shores if they are different from truffles.

  • *looks up at the lights* "Do not go out or I will go apeshit on someone, you hear me electricity?"
  • I am sick of cake balls but now my friends alway want me to make them loll!

  • These are the times that I am thankful it does not snow here.

  • Toronto is closest, though if you fly to buffalo Im right across the border from it. Alas, we ate all the roast :( only enough leftovers for my husband tonight.

I actually only season it with onion soup mix and then let it do its thing, ive never done it any other way.

Im making my truffles right now, rolling them atleast. I just pulsed the almonds (turned out nicely) and mixed it with some icing sugar to sweeten/lighten the mix, and now im rolling the almond flavoured truffles. I shall return once I have that batch completed. Then tomorrow I get to do the plain ones rolled in coconut, and peppermint ones rolled in plain icing sugar.
  • Katie, that bites! Hope his car wasn't damaged at all.
  • I want truffles and rum balls now. Thanks guys.

  • Me too Sarah..me too...I'm trying not to worry about it until we see it tomorrow/Monday but its hard.

I'm making truffles later this week. White rum and white chocolate truffles rolled in almond flakes. I'm also going to bake some coconut macaroons with white chocolate filling. I may start on those tomorrow, actually. Yum!
  • How funny, I rolled my peppermint truffles in icing sugar, too. Must have been a good idea.
  • Those sound to die for Sun and Nebb.

  • I have to try not to eat half of the mixture as I make them, though!

I actually haven't made the truffles before, so I have my fingers crossed they work out!

  • ricksang, I'll share my cognac mocha or my peppermint truffles with you. The Christmas cookies are all gone. My husband, the avowed sweets-hater, has eaten them all.

  • Hmmm, well I tried rolling them out of the fridge, without coating htem in chocolate and its a disaster. Im putting it all in the freezer over night, dipping in chocolate and rolling tomorrow. Screw that.
  • I'm bored out of my mind, and now hungry thanks to all your talk about roasts and truffles.  Thanks guys.
  • That happened last time I attempted rum balls, Nebb. Let the mixture stay in the freezer overnight and it should be much easier to do.
  • Yeah, i was trying to skip steps because im running out of time, and apparently that wont work! I think even without the coating though, when I give it as gifts they will be too oo-ey, so I cant skip that step like I had hoped.
