Holy Guacamole, Liesel!  GORGEOUS!  I love both yours and your mother's dresses!  Dang there are so many good pics in there.  I think one of my faves is on the balcony.  It's so romantic.
Posted by MattsPenguin
<div>Thanks! I'll have to tell my mom you said that, she was so worried about how she'd look in that dress. I loved it on her, though. The balcony was terrifying - it's really just a flower box on the third floor bedroom of my parents' friends' house. It was not meant to be stood on at all, and I was literally hyperventilating the entire time I was on it. But, hey, anything for a good picture :)</div>
• MuSu, I read it like that, as well.  Lesbian tarantulas!

I have zero insane sisters.  I also have zero sane sisters.  I only have brothers (and sisters-in-law).  Now I could go on and on about one of my SILs, but I'm trying to not be mean any more.
In Response to Re: Tuesday Night : Well his status does say up for adoption, so my understanding of that is he's adoptable, but if no one adopts him, he has a permanent home at the foster (he's a 12-year-old, so that probably factors in).
Posted by daffodil_jill
Gotcha. That makes sense. If a dog is in foster care, I assume it means he's not at the shelter and you'd have to make an appt to meet him, right? Those foster parents should just adopt him. It's kinda like "I mean, you're old and you can stay until you die, but we don't want to officially claim you"

• I acquired a SIL in the last few weeks. We get along fine, but won't ever be BFFs. We just are very different people.

Apparently when she was dress shopping (for her wedding), she complained in front of MIL and her mother about how her dad went out and bought a new (used) car, and gave her his old car for free. She said she liked the newer one better and was bummed she didn't get that one.

My MIL didn't say anything at the time (apparently her mom ripped her a new one), but she was pretty disgusted.

• Liesel, well definitely tell your mom how great she looked!  I love that dress!  Especially the color!
• Ldy, if you tell me not to read something, of course I'm going to read it.
• My god, it's thundering like crazy here.  I'm thinking i should set the alarm on my phone as a backup in case the power goes out.  It would just be my luck that it craps out when I have to get up extra early.

I like to torture myself sometimes by browsing the adoptable pets at the shelter online.  I saw a couple dogs the other day that were 10 or 11 years old and I wanted to run over and adopt them immediately.

Pretty much, I think. You do need to make an appointment with a fostered dog, unless they'll be attending an event.

There is such a thing as a "failed foster" - where someone sets out to be a foster and then does adopt.

• Musu, your new SIL does not sound pleasant.

I have a sister that I cannot stand. She's just the worst. We have nothing in common. Not even genetics, since we're both adopted.
• Angel, because he was a douche lord during the break-up and said he needed an entire month to say good-bye to Loki.

Mica, you got them a kitten gym? That's adorable!
• Mica, I want to see pictures of the kitty gym! What I'm picturing is absolutely precious.
• MuSu, that's disgusting!  I can't ever see myself as BFF's with one of my SILs either.  I'm interested to see where we all are in 10-20 yrs.  My mom and aunts all get along so well.  I cannot imagine that with her right now.

• That seems silly that they call it a failed foster. That seems like a success to me... the animal doesn't have to get used another new home and family.

Yeah, I was actually really surprised that she said it, Poke & Leisel. She never struck me as selfish like that before.

I got a car for free when my mom bought a new(er) car when I was a junior in HS. It was her old car. It would have NEVER crossed my mind in any kind of capacity to complain or even THINK that I would rather have her new car. Like, wtf.

ETA: Junior in college, I meant.

• A lot of times when people foster, the animal's costs are at least partially covered by the rescue organization.  So it makes more financial sense to foster rather than adopt, although you run the risk of someone else falling in love with the pet and adopting it away from you.

My kittens were fostered from the shelter since they were so young.  Of the four kittens, one ended up adopted by the foster family.
