1.  No but I've heard of it

2. Freckles - it's a classic that takes place in Indiana when there were still forests and swamps

3. Gifts, bookstores mostly. I always say I want to start using the library but I never do.

1.  Yes and I love it!  I can never keep track of whether I liked a book or not so it definitely helps.

2.  I am currently reading "Queen vs. King" by Gigi Levangie Grazer (author of the Starter Wife)

3.  Library.  I generally only read books once so I am too cheap to buy them.  Although there are a few authors that I do purchase.

4.  Mysteries (light-hearted ones) or Chick Lit

1. Any of you members on good reads? - I am, but I'm not good at keeping up with it. I really should.

2.  What is the last book you read? - A romance novel - Velvet by Jane Feather. I read a lot of romance novels in the summer. I don't know why. I just always have.

3.  Library?  Used bookstore?  Brick and mortar bookstore?  Online?   Garage sales? - I get books at the on base library, but it can be limited. I also really like used book stores. I very rarely buy a book at a standard book store.

4.  Favorite "genre" (what do you like to read?) - I don't really know what I like the best, I think it really does vary with the time of the year.

2.  In Cold Blood.  That classic by Truman Capote.  It was interesting.

3.  I'm the same as Dani, I want to use the library, but I just don't.  I actually spent the last two weekends going to garage sales and picking up books ridiculously cheap.  I also have a used bookstore a block from my office that I go to far too often.  Other than that, it's online or now that they've finally opened a bookstore on my side of the city (that isn't in a mall), I'll shop there too.

1. Any of you members on good reads? Yes, but I forgot about my account.
2.  What is the last book you read? I... can't remember when I last finished a book for fun. We just finished reading "The Lord of the Rings"-- FI read to me while I cooked him dinner/worked on sewing projects/housecleaned.
3.  Library?  Used bookstore?  Brick and mortar bookstore?  Online?   Garage sales? Library, followed by bookstore, followed by online, but sometimes I just grab mysteries off the curb, read them, and then return them to the curb (We're very into freecycling in this city.)
  4.  Favorite "genre" (what do you like to read?) I'll read pretty much anything except horror and romance. Oh, and sports fiction, I suppose. I like history, though, and fairy tales, and regency-period drama.

1) Nope

2) I'm reading Women, Food and God by Geneen Roth right now. She was on Oprah and the book is changing my attitude regarding food and dieting which I wasn't expecting. I was resisting the read due to my attitude towards self-help books in general. It really isn't like a self-help book at all and I'm glad my mom pushed me into reading it. I would recommend to all women <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-smile.gif" border="0" alt="Smile" title="Smile" />

3) My mom usually gives me books to read after she's finished them. She's a big reader and we have the same taste. I do go to B&N sometimes too.

4) I love memoirs.

Hurrah!

I only just got into Sense & Sensibility... the sister-in-law reminds me far too much of my own family members to make it fun reading, but after three starting attempts I finally got through it.

I confess: I have the Oxford Jane Austen, and sometimes the suspense is too much and I have to check the who's who in the back to find out who marries whom in the end. So, yeah, I don't do "suspense" well.

2. I'm the Middle of the second Dune book, the Silmarillion, and Prometheus Bound. I recently finished Neverwhere and Lord of the Flies

3. I work at a Health Library, so I can get books sent there.  I do that for the most part and some deals I find online.

4. I would have to give my allegiance to Fantasy and Science Fiction lately.  I had a really intense historical fiction phase in high school and early college.

My mom did this too.  Passing books on is the main reason I don't like to get them from a library.  I'd much rather say "friend, I really think you'd enjoy this book, here, tell me what you think" than "friend, I really think you'd enjoy this book, you should go find it"

2.  What is the last book you read? - Last one completed was Wuthering Heights. One I'm reading now is called, "1959: The Year Everything Changed." It's interesting, and I'm reading it for my comprehensive exams (one question is on Cold War culture).

3.  Library?  Used bookstore?  Brick and mortar bookstore?  Online?   Garage sales? - I used to get almost all my books from the library. I have a kindle now, so I download most of my books, unless they are unavailable in digital format. Special thanks to opalsky for alerting me to Project Gutenberg - free digital books!

4.  Favorite "genre" (what do you like to read?) - Good question. At least half my books are somewhat school -related (US history), which I still enjoy. Otherwise, I like fiction and historical fiction, and classics. (Example: I've read Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights this year, I also have Thomas Hardy, Leo Tolstoy and Friedrich Nietzsche on my kindle waiting for me.)

2.  What is the last book you read? I am currently re-reading "Night Jasmine" which is one of my all-time favorite books. Next, I am reading "Helmet for my Pillow" which is completely out of my normal genre, but after watching "the Pacific" on HBO, I wanted to read the book that inspired it.

3.  Library?  Used bookstore?  Brick and mortar bookstore?  Online?   Garage sales? I have gotten a couple from actual bookstores and online, but a lot of the time, a few friends and I mail books back and forth to each other.

4.  Favorite "genre" (what do you like to read?) I like chic lit, and historical romances. Although, I am getting intrigued with biographies and historical books, so I think that is where my focus will shift for a while. I am very indecisive in my genres.

2.  What is the last book you read? New book, as in never read before?  (I reread a lot of my books)  I think it was probably a biography of Mary, Queen of Scots.

3.  Library?  Used bookstore?  Brick and mortar bookstore?  Online?   Garage sales? My sister is an associate librarian, so I get most of my books from the library she works at.  I'll go to any bookstore to find books I'm buying for myself, but I usually get them from Amazon.

1. Nope
2.  I'm currently working on The Kite Runner (not impressed, actually), The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and The Bodies Left Behind.
3.  Love the library, love getting books online.  I have a free reader on my phone too, so I've been getting some decent books there too.
4.  I like a lot of genres, but my favorite are probably murder mysteries/psychological thrillers or true crime.  I know, I know.

I thought it was really interesting (though slow) up until about last quarter of the book.  I still haven't finished it.

Have any good recs?  I need a book or series to really sink in to.  I just haven't found anything in the last couple of weeks that's thrilled me.

2.  What is the last book you read? Unheard Cries (Thomas French) - a true crime novel. Pretty good. Just now getting ready to start Chasing the Devil by David Reichert (about the hunt for the Green River Killer) 

3.  Library?  Used bookstore?  Brick and mortar bookstore?  Online?   Garage sales? Brick and mortar and online. Also book club. Oh, and kindle app on iTouch. Not super into that, but it passes the time if I'm waiting somewhere.

It's like J&K said - kinda slow, but ok.  At the end he kind of devolves into some rambling, but I think I understand what he was trying to do.  I found it odd that in the end it kind of challenged my thoughts about capital punishment.

I'll try it, I'm sure. He basically created the genre of literary non-fiction. It's pretty amazing that he recreated the entire story just based on interviews with the killers. And tried to be as accurate as possible.

That's what amazed me about it.  He was able to make me feel very sympathetic about all of the characters in the book even though I knew most of the information came from other sources.
