What would you eat at my wedding?

Since this is always a busy board, I'm posting this here for the sake of instant gratification.  I'm trying to get a rough percentage here.  If you received a wedding invitation with a meal choice response card, which would you choose?

I said beef, BUT im curious what the actual dishes are?
  • I'm with Nebb. I am a sucker for an amazing stuffed chicken dish and I hate rump roast and t-bones... I would probably pick beef though if it was prime rib or filet mignon.
  • I said chicken out of safety because I'm picky about beef.  I would really prefer to have a little more of a description.
  • I said beef too, but would be curious as to what the dishes were (i.e., via your website or on the RSVP card). Beef is my go-to wedding food because it's usually prime rib or filet (yum), and seems to hold up better to group cooking than chicken. The wedding chicken I've had has usually been dry and/or tasteless.

  • Jinx Meaghan! We are beef twins.

  • I said veggie because most of time meat is too dry (for my taste) when served in bulk (on warming trays, waiting to be served, etc)

  • I chose chicken but now I'm wondering if it might be stuffed with spinach.  Nobody likes a the girl at the table with spinach in her teeth.
  • i said chicken.

kate--do we have the same dress on in our pics?

  • Also I'm going to go ahead and apologize for the rest of my typos tonight, I'm getting a little drunkedy drunk.
  • I said vegetarian, because I don't eat meat.
  • mmm, filet mignon. medium rare. seasoned with sea salt and cracked peppercorn. a pat of butter on top. mmmm....

in all honesty, I'd probably actually eat chicken at a wedding though. don't know why. unless it's filet mignon.

  • Heh. It would really, really depend on what the vegetarian meal is as I'm not a huge meat fan.

    **And me as well.
  • It totally, totally depends on your crowd. FI's side of the family will all choose the meat option, whereas my side of the family and most of our friends will choose one of the vegetarian options we're offering. I can understand that you're trying to get a rough percentage, but you know your crowd best.

However, props for actually putting a veggie option in your poll :)
  • Kate, where's your wedding?

  • i'm surprised the votes are so close.

  • I chose chicken. I don't like beef and it would depend on the veggie option - so chicken would be my best bet.

  • I chose chicken, but it depends for me too. I would pick beef if I could choose how it was cooked, but most weddings I've been to it's all medium well, which is gross.

  • Wow, I'm really surprised the votes are so close too.  We were thinking it would be around 75% beef, 20% chicken, and 5% vegetarian.  Buuuutttt- we're all women and therefore slightly less carnivorous, so I put a post for the men above.

P.S. The wedding is in Louisville.

  • I've never had a good (or even decent) chicken prepared for masses so I voted for beef. But it would really depend on what cut was being served. I don't like prime rib for example, but do like filet mignon. Why wouldn't you provide a little more detail?
  • I was gonna vote, but Pooh was talking about med-rare beef with peppercorn and I got distracted. She's describing one of the best filets I've ever eaten in my life!
Night swimming in the ocean= pretty sweet reception!
  • We had about 2/3 beef, 1/3 chicken, and 3 people (out of 100) had veggie dishes.

  • Beef, It's what's for dinner.

  • Do you have to pick just one entree, or are you asking your guests on their RSVPs?  And, it really depends on how the food's being prepared.  In my experience, the closer to college age you are, the more popular chicken is (vs beef).  As you age, the preference turns more evenly split.

I live in Louisville, but my wedding is in Georgetown.

<div>Yeah, same here, that's the only entree I can eat. While I always keep my fingers crossed that it's NOT pasta primavera, that's pretty much what I expect it to be at weddings. </div>

  • I don't know if you have already, but you could ask your caterer what their usual numbers are. Are you trying to estimate because one costs more?

<div>Haha, it's okay. It's just BORING! I'd eat it, though. But let's face it, most wedding food is boring because they're making 100+ plates. You can't turn out mass amounts of food and have it be amazing, for the most part.</div>

  • Kentuckykate, like I said in my DD thread, now you know what TK would be eating at your wedding: your posts. Tongue out

Since you were going to reveal your menu in the vanished post, could you do it here?

Also, for our wedding we had the exact same number of beef and chicken requests, which were the majority, then maybe 1/5 vegetarian requests. It was $2 extra per person to offer three options, but it was worth it IMO.
