So, the earlier post about people not getting in RSVPs yet raised a question for me. How far in advance of the deadline for telling the venue should you make the RSVP deadline?  If you end up having to call everyone who didn't send in an RSVP, how much time should you plan to do that?

I would do about a week or two.  For instance, my venue needs the final count the Monday before the wedding.  So I plan on doing about 10-14 days before the final count day for my RSVP deadline.

My cake baker needs a final count two weeks before the wedding date to finalize the size of the cake.  Since I'm a "plan for the worst" kinda person, I'm setting the RSVP deadline two weeks ahead of the cake dealline.  That way, if more than a handful of people forget to RSVP, I'll have plenty of time to call them and get a response.  I think it also depends on your schedule.  If you know you may not have a lot of time to call people in one week, then you can give yourself more of a buffer.

We only had about 80 people total (including immediate family who were definite yes RSVPs) so that only left us about 65 guests from whom to hear.  Since most of them were couples, that cut it down even more.  We set our RSVP deadline for 5 days on top of the caterer's deadline which was 10 days before the wedding.  All of that to say, it could depend on the size of your guest list.  The more you invite, the more you might have to call so just allow yourself the time to do that if you're slammed at work.

Our deadline is our final meeting, 10/11 before the wedding which is 10/14. I am making the RSVP date 9/24.
