BM dress stress!

Who would have thought it would be so hard to find just the right BM dress?! I found my dress no problem. But I am haveing a hard time finding a BM dress that fits my vision. I want taffeta, tea-length, v-neck, A-line dresses, preferably in a rich chocolate color. I'm starting to think this will be the hardest part of planning!

I'm having a lot of trouble too -- but that's just b/c my b-party is soooo different in size and shape but THEY are all determined to wear the same style.  I was so ok with them having different styles from the same designer, oh well!

I think I stress about every step in this process.... but yes, this is my current stress too!My problem is ... well, I don't really like bridesmaid dresses. I like DRESSES. Just regular, pretty dresses. But finding one that will look good on all my gals, be available in each of their sizes and in a color I like, *and* not be obnoxiously expensive ... well, there's the rub.

I've looked at the Ann Taylor dresses ... but does anyone else think $199 is just too much to ask BMs to pay??The fact that I'm cheap is probably not making this process any easier. ;-)

What maximum price are you looking at?  Also, do all of your girls look good in that?  As a short person tea length looks horrid on me.

You really need to ask your BMs this question, not us. Call each of them in private and say, "What's your max for a BM dress?" then decide from there if $200 is reasonable. And don't forget that they may need to pay for alterations on top of that, plus they might need shoes and hoisery and stuff, so if they say their budget is $200 max then even with a $199 dress you're still pushing it. If you want a personal opinion ... I don't think $200 is unreasonable, as long as you're not requiring special shoes (like, if you say they can get any gold sandal, then you're fine). And with a dress like this that they sell in street sizes, they may not need alterations. But I'd personally still feel more comfortable having them pay less than that (my BMs each gave me a $200 limit, for what it's worth). If I were in your shoes and they liked this dress, I'd maybe contribute $25-50 each to make it easier on them.

I actually saw that Ann Taylor dress and really LOVE it! I think the color is perfect. And I must say thanks for the quick response from all of you! Impressive! I have had some people think it is too informal looking. I think it is very simple and elegant, which is what I'm going for, maybe with ivory roses for a bouquet. Thoughts? And it is too short for a January wedding?

Have your girls even tried it on?Formality is all up to you, however, if you are having a black tie wedding then floor-length would be more appropriate.

Here's some Watters (and Wtoo) dresses....the Wtoo ones are less expensive. You can also try buying from Netbride, etc.  They sell bridemaid dresses for much cheaper than bridal stores and they are the exact same dresses.  This is where my girls got their dresses from. You an also by full length dresses and have them hemmed to tea length. Think of that as an optin.http://www.watters.com/product.php?coll=wtoo&showid=992http://www.watters.com/product.php?coll=wtoo&showid=900http://www.watters.com/product.php?coll=watters&showid=2425

I had a terrible time too because I wanted a key lime green dress for the girls and it was so hard to find that color.   I think it took me 5 months to pick out something.  I wound up deciding on a tea length dress and paying for a fabric change.....most dress companies will do this.

We got my girls' dresses at White House Black Market.  EVERYTHING is on sale right now, so they would have had to pay $99.00 (down from $168.00), then we got a $50.00 discount for spending over $120.00.  The dress total was $83.00.  The only problem with the dresses on sale is that there may not be some sizes.  Anyway, it's another option if you're interested!  HTH! :)

DUH, sorry... for some reason I thought you were looking for black.  BUT, maybe JCrew.com will have something for you!  GL!

I never thought I'd say this, but Davids Bridal. They have a lot of silhouettes, and they have good browns, Truffle or Latte.I ended up finding the BM dresses there, and they were good quality and good prices ($159 for a ball gown)Take a look online at their website and see which dresses are available in brown.

Depending how formal you are going for I would think floor length dresses would be best for January.

How many BMs do you have? That dress that mbc found was on the mark! That was very quick and impressive. I'm the haggling queen. I say never accept posted prices as final. Perhaps if you get in touch with corporate hq for A.T, you can sweet talk a bit...explain how you just love their clothes, so much in fact that you may use their dresses in your wedding...and ask if you can get some sort of multiple dress discount? Plus A.T (I got all my school clothes there before my school went to uniforms!) always has great coupons floatin around...maybe ask for a few of those?
