Poll: Supercuts

Poll created from the post below. Have you been there? If so what do you think about it? Why does everyone think they f+ck up haircuts there? I just find it interesting to find out why people hate it.

I went on a whim once in high school, and it was by far the worst cut I've ever gotten-- completely blunt and uneven in the back, and the bangs were super duper short and uneven (whereas I would have liked them to be normal length).  That was a bad enough experience that I would never go back to a place like that.  I'm sure there are great stylists there, but I wouldn't want to take the risk that I get the bad one.

I used to go there, never had a bad experience.  I went to a place in willowbrook once and she cut my ear, and told me she had to rewash my hair, and my ear was burning from the soap, and she never owned up to cutting my ear, plus I didnt see the liquid that sanitizes, so I never went back.  Now a friend of the family cuts my hair at her place.

an ex went to a supercuts in ct when we were in college - they screwed up his hair SO badly, and it really was the most simple type of cut you could give.with that said, I don't doubt that there are good cutters there.  I don't trust ANYONE with my hair other than my uncle and 2 other stylists.  I've had a few too many horrible haircuts in the past!

I haven't gone to SuperCuts before, but I have gone to both Great Clips and Hair Cuttery. I believe it is hit-or-miss. Sometimes, you get someone great, like the latest person I went to at Hair Cuttery who I will request in the future, sometimes you don't.

Fi goes to supercuts and always comes out looking nice.  That being said I would not go to supercuts.  Here is my reason...my hair is more difficult than FIs and takes a while to blow out.  I feel like supercuts is charging so little that they wouldnt take the time it takes to blow out my hair perfectly like the salon I go to that charges more.  And this is not to offend you but if the stylist were good then why wouldnt they move to a higher paying salon where they could make more money.  I have no idea how supercuts works but I would think that in order to make good money you would have to be having a lot more clients than would have at a salon that charges twice as much.   I have no ideas how salons work with paying their stylists but I would hope that if I am charged $100 for a hair cut the stylist is getting more of that then if I went to supercuts and got charges $30.

I guess I associate it as a cheap place for a guy to get his haircut.

I have been there for a while. I mean I have seen so many people come and go. People that shouldnt be cutting hair or even be near people. I guess I have been there so many years is because I live so close to my job. I litleraly can walk there. The pay sucks yes, but since I have a lot of regulars I make descent money. It just really sucks when we try to build up the business and people always will still talk bullsh*t about it. I do color cuts blowouts just like other stylists. I would love to do a career change and be a makeup artist. I did my makeup for my wedding and I would love to do it for other peoples. I just dont have enough guts to do it.

I think I went to supercuts long time ago in H.S. (or it was comparable store).  Bad experience so I never went back.  My aunt is a stylist and she is awesome, so anyone I have gone to besides her over the years usually doesn't do a good enough job.  She always laughs at me, because she will find soo many things wrong with my hair :)That being said, I always think of supercuts as a beginning place for stylists. Not to say that some aren't great, but I don't want to take the chance-

It seems to really depend on the person. FI always gets his haircut there and sometimes its great and sometimes not. I think he is feeling pressure for the wedding though and wants to be sure it will be great, that's why he asked me to get recs. I just told him we could go to Edison!!

I used to go to the one in Hoboken once in a while (this was years ago). I never got a horrible cut there, but I felt like I was paying too much for what I was getting. Plus the last guy who cut my hair had a bit of an attitude. I went to another privately-owned salon near me after that, but after a while, I again felt like I was paying too much for what I was getting. I've been at the same salon for about two or three years now and really like it.

I have never been to a supper cuts so I cant really comment on them directly. When I really little I went to Kuts for Kids in the mall but I started going to the same salon as my mom when I was pretty young. I have since switched places but it is about atmosphere for me. I prefer going someplace that has a spa like feel where I can get a latte or a sparkling water.  I dont know if that makes me a snob or something but its just what I am used to and I am very much a creature of habit. BTW- dont be afraid to go out on your own. You can always freelance and keep your job until you get on your feet and I am sure that you would do great based on your pics.

i went once because i just needed the end cuts off.  i'm like, how could you f'this up?  and my normal place would have charged me $50 for just a trim, so i'm like, hell, $10 or whatever is cool.  it was THE WORST CUT ever.  she totally hacked off one side, it was totally uneven, i finally said PLEASE STOP and walked out.  i called to complain and i was so upset and crying the manager took total pity on me, i went there after hours, and she totally fixed it.  she was very nice and did a good job, but that @%!$!# who did it the first time was the worst and i hope she was fired.  you get what you pay for.

like anything, i hate sterotyping and saying all supercuts ppl are bad; obviously the girl who fixed my hair wasn't, as i am sure OP is not.  but i get the feeling they hire anyone off the street with a pair of scissors from my experience.

I went once back in high school. The cut was fine (all one lenght at this point) but she straightened my hair out with a curling iron at the end which broke all my hair and left me frizzy for months. FI went without a problem but I think thats cause he got the standard "little boys haircut" hahaha... he doesn't anymore.

Supercuts will hire hairdressers right out of school, with no clientele. That is why they are so cheap and why some people get bad haircuts. In an industry where a clientele is necessary in order to make any money, there's nothing wrong with this, in fact it's necessary if you're a new hairdresser who needs to work for pay and can't waste time sweeping up hair in a high-end salon while waiting to get a chair. In other words, there's no reason why you can't go there and get an awesome haircut, but your chances of getting a great haircut are not as good as for salons since the staff doesn't need to be experienced, just licensed. I've been there 2 or 3 times and never had a bad haircut, but I do tend to gravitate toward salons because the quality is not uniform
