Ahh! Anyone ever lose a stone from a pave setting?

I just looked at my ring and a little stone is missing. Im so upset! I try to be so careful. Has this happened to anyone else? When you take it to get fixed, do they keep it for a while or can they do it pretty quick? My other concern is the jeweler where FI got it from is almost 2 hr away, can any jeweler fix it? Anyone know how much it costs? Its free at the original jeweler, but its kinda a PITA to get there. Thanks!

I didn't lose a little stone, but my big stone got lose, they fixed it, but it wasn't free, although I thought it was.  I'm in the same position, the jeweler is 2 hours away, they wanted to take it for 2 days, I said no way, and they got it done that day and did it for free!  Any jeweler should be able to do it though.

It's happened to me a whopping 4 times! (but that's another story). Each time the jeweler fixed it and I was able to get it the next day.  Mine were free because it's the original jeweler but it's probably going to be about 20 bucks somewhere else.

I would just bite the bullet and go to the original jewler.  That way if it happens again, they cant say you didnt go to them if there is something wrong with the ring.

My friend lost hers from her ring multiple times.  She had to take it to the original jewler and they replaced them for free.  Finally she just got the ring reset because it was so annoying.  She lost the stones all in the same year.

I'm not sure if you had your ring sized, but I heard doing that to a pave ring makes the stones more likely to fall out. I really liked pave settings, but this was one of the reasons I decided against it. I hope you don't have to pay to replace the stones - def. go to the original jeweler first so maybe he will fix it for free. That really stinks =(

Thats why its best to buy from a local reputable jeweler.  Did you buy insurance too? Then its free to replace.

thank you all so much- I do have insurance for the whole ring thru our homeowners policy, but not sure if its worth filing a claim for something that will be around $20. The ring was custom made to my size, so it wouldnt need to be resized, but I heard that as well about resizing. Ill call the jeweler and see what they suggest. Thanks again!

My pave ring was resized and in doing so alllll the diamonds fell out on the sides and the original jewler fixed it, but he is in NYC and I live in Westchester County. So then like a few months later a side stone fell out and he told me if I go to another place the warranty no longer is valid. So I went ot NYC and he never opened the store that day, I was so angry (apparently he had a family emergency) and I had an event and did not want a missing stone, so I went to a local jeweler and they fixed it for $35 and I got it back same day. Not 2 days later the same stone fell out and it turns out I had messed up/knocked the prongs out of place and then had the orignal jewler reset it (dont ask!) but he put it back under warranty.
That said, nothing has happened since and the original jewler has decided to make a custom wedding band for me that I wanted for the same price as the one readily available to make up for the hassle.
BUT all said, it happens! You can be as careful as possible but we bang into things, we forget to take it off when we clean, we are clumsy and things happen.
    Good luck.

uhhh yes! the first week I was engaged I lost 6 tiny stones! my jeweler replaced them all and I was told the same thing about the whole sizing thing.. since then I had lost another 3 over the past month.. spoke to a few of my friends with similiar rings and then went through the same thing.. supposedly as the ring continues to get fixed  the new stones that are put in last.. we will see.. yes it is veryyy upsetting and sometimes I just want to replace it and other times I just love the micropave look so much it seems worth it.. I am going to give it some more time- like a year and see how bad it is and if it continues to be so frequent.. hopefully this is the last of it for both of us!- good luck!!

    Pave settings are very delicate.

If your ring was purchased through any big name jeweler then your fiance had an option to buy a care plan on it that would cover the cost of labor and any decent jeweler offers a lifetime diamond guarantee with the only stipulation being that you bring it in every 6 months for periodic inspections. The LABOR might be $20 but white gold needs rhodium (more than $20) and the diamond itself will have a charge as well.
