I am not sure if all dioceses have the same rules.  Our church is part of the Diocese of Metuchen and we had to do Pre-Cana and the Joy Filled Marriage session.

Yes, it is now a requirement.  It used to be optional, but as of July 2009 they have made it a requirement.  FI and I though precana was on the boring side, but we really enjoyed the God's Plan for a Joy Filled Marriage.  We got a lot out of it.

Just so you o=know, it's a little expensive -- I think it cost us $120ish.

Yes, you have to do both sessions, plus focus. Joy filled marriage is way worse than the marriage prep IMO

weird, I didn't have to do that.  We live in MA and did Pre Cana here, but got married in NJ and didn't have to do any Joy Filled Marriage or anything.

we didn't have the Joy Filled Marriage either  (we went about a yr ago in Hazlet, part of Diocese of Trenton).... so glad it wasn't a requirement (in fact, I've never heard of it until now).

We were told the original marriage prep was split up into two sessions instead of one long one, and that's where the Joy Filled Marriage session came from.

We're getting married in Holmdel (Diocese of Trenton) and the Deacon only told us Pre-Cana.
