Stony Hill Inn

Hi Ladies, I am considering the Stony Hill Inn for our wedding next spring.  I would appreciate any thoughts (positive or negative) as well as prices and what's included if you have them.  Thanks!

I dint hear any goog things about them.  I dont know if you are looking for a place with a view or not or where you can take outside pictures...They dont have a view of a nice outdoor space for pictures.  I also heard that the sales people there once you give them your information they will stalk you, which can be annoying if you are looking around and trying to pick the best place for your wedding day.  Those are my thoughts.  I think it is a good place for maybe going to dinner and just the restaurant aspect, but I wouldnt do a big event such as a wedding there.

Great food and drinks! Had a great time at a wedding here too. The sales people called me once or twice after I checked the place out for my own wedding but I never felt like they were stalking me.

We considered Stony Hill.  I loved the history of the place (I know, I'm a cornball) and the woman we met with showed us all over the house and explained the history of it.  After seeing that, I totally wanted it.  The sales staff was very nice and they never stalked me after we had our appointment.

BUT like PPs have stated, there really isn't a location for pictures. We went outside on the patio (which would be open for guests--but at that time they were doing construction) and all we could hear was noise from the highway.

I also was told that the restaurant would be open during the wedding--not sure if that's still the practice (we looked in May 2010).  I just didn't like the idea of outside patrons having the opportunity to wander into the wedding, though I'm sure it doesn't happen often.

Added to that, the price was meh. I think they quoted us at about $125-130 pp over Thanksgiving weekend, which was way more than The Tides quoted us. So all in all it wasn't for us.

I am getting married there next month.  I agree that there aren't really sprawling grounds for pictures, but I don't need the fountains, etc that a lot of the places around here have.  And yes, the restaurant is open during the wedding, but you are in seperate rooms (the bathrooms are shared, though).

The reasons I picked it:  it's not a wedding factory.  The people there have been nothing but wonderful to work with (no one "stalked" me, though other venues did!).  The food is delicious!  There was nothing we didn't like at our tasting.  They are very accomodating and are able to help make our day what we want.  The price wasn't bad, either, considering that other places quoted higher numbers for less food.

Obviously I'll have more to post about them in 5 weeks, but you can PM me with any questions you have.

My cousin had her wedding reception there last March. Cocktail hour was wonderful, dinner wasn't memorable. The wedding cake tasted like it had been sitting out for a month. It was so stale and tasteless. My poor cousin said that when she and her husband had to feed it to eachother their faces said it all in their pictures.

My cousin also mentioned that her banquet manager left the Stony Hill and she called for weeks asking for him....they would just tell her that he wasn't available and that he'd call her back. Finally, after a few weeks of not hearing back from him and calling to finalize wedding details, someone let the cat out of the bag. She was just upset that she wasn't notified when it happened, which I don't blame her.

Again, I'm getting married there next month, so I feel I should respond to this:

    - The cake is provided by Palermo's, so it's not an in-house thing.

    - They actually just had some more turnover there, where the woman that I was dealing with since January left without telling me (I actually think she may have been fired), but I've spoken to the new head of catering and we're meeting next week.

I've been to both weddings and showers there and have always had a great time. Never dealt with management there but the service and food were excellent.
