Semi-WR, personal grooming **not for the shy!!!

ok ladies, question for you. I'm thinking of getting a Brazilian pre honeymoon, but am not sure how far ahead of time i should do it. We get to LV on a Thursday, wedding is Saturday and then we don't get to our honeymoon until the following Friday.

This will be the first time that I have this done, so if there are any tips or other things I should know, pls. feel free to share!!!!!l

Omg! I am so glad you asked this because I want to try this as well and am a little scared about doing it! Lol. So I would love to hear peoples experiences that have done it!

I've done this once before.  You have to make sure your hair is a little longer, like a quarter of an inch or so.  And make sure you've got some vegetable oil or something like that so you can get the extra sticky stuff off at home...  Its been awhile since i've done that but i remember getting it done middle of the week then leaving for a vacation on the weekend and it still being fine by the end of the vacation.

I leave for Vegas on a Tuesday and the wedding is on Saturday. I'm getting waxed on Sunday. You have a good week+ before there's any growth.  Take some ibuprofen about 30 minutes before your appointment- it helps a lot!

It doesn't feel good, but the pain is very temporary. You might be a little tender/sore for a day or so. Go to a GOOD spa. Not the back of a nail shop or anything like that. It's worth the money. It's kind of embarassing at first, but this is what these people do. Talk to them about what, if anything, you want left (landing strip, etc).

Ditto everything Trashie said, especially the part about going to a good salon.  Are you going back home before the honeymoon, or will you be leaving from Vegas?  There are some great salons there that specialize in waxing - I went to one in Henderson because my timing was off to get it done at home before the wedding.  I can give you recommendations if you want to have it done there, the lady that does mine here in Aspen actually worked at a different place in Vegas.

I also think if you've never gotten one done before, get one done now. That way you know how its going to feel, if your skin is going to have a reaction, etc.

I'm glad you asked this too!  The advice is very helpful as I am getting my first brazilian this Saturday and have no idea what to expect.  The wedding is not for another month so I will probably get it done again a few days before we leave for Vegas.

I get them done quite often and just had one before going to Mexico about a month ago. I totally agree with what everyone said. It costs about $60-75 here in Detroit at a good spa/salon so expect to pay a bit. Do not try to go cheap on it because unfortunately-speaking from experience-the result is subpar. Yes, you need at least a quarter inch of hair at a minimum but I have had it done with less and it was ok. Typically that's about a 2 week growth but depends on your body. Make sure you know that it is all hair removed down there-including in parts you may not think of (i.e. butt crack, etc-sorry but want you to know what you are getting.). Don't be shy about it-I always try to ramble on about something completely not related so I don't think about it. They tell you it typically lasts 6 weeks but I get them about every 4-6 weeks. Sometimes 4 weeks though isn't enough for the hair growth in between though. Yes, it hurts. For me it hurts like getting my lower eyelid under my eyebrow waxed but that's just me. The result is so worth it. Make sure they wear gloves with the hand that will be touching you down there.

In regards to timing, I usually get them about 2-3 days before I have to show my skin. I am usually red for the first day to day and a half but then all good after that. Definitely try them before doing it for the big run to know how it feels as well as if you even like it. One of my friends had it done and her husband freaked because he thought she looked like a little prepubescent girl down there so made for a horrible honeymoon-i.e. he wouldn't touch her. So just make sure you discuss it wit your honey so he knows what to expect if you are not normally bare in that area. She thought he would love it as a surprise and unfortunately, she said it was the most horrible part of the wedding/honeymoon because there was no intimacy for several weeks.

Message me if you have any other questions. Good luck!

I see the same person for my bikini wax that I plan to have do my Brazilian.  She said she's willing to "work our way up" to a full Brazilian, so I get use to the feeling over the course of the next 6 months.

I would say you're fine getting it done between Vegas and the honeymoon, but you do want to account for the 2-3 days that you might be red (especially if you've never had it done before).  I have sensitive skin, so I sometimes bruise.  So I usually go almost 5 days before I wear a swimsuit specifically.

Brazilian is all hair removed, unless you want a "landing strip."  Looking at the services list where I go, you would just want a normal bikini & backside wax (this is how it's listed on her website).

Some places may also let you do the full bikini (no landing strip) and not the backside, if you're not hairy back there. lol.  Check out your options for sure.

When you go in just do what my Fi said. "I wanted it all taken right down to the hardwood". It leaves no room for error! She also recommends going with a friend so u can arrive semi trashed, but that's how most of us roll! Gin>ibuprofen.

Question for clarification - is it because she didn't have a landing strip, do you know?

where in Virginia are you?  if you're in Northern Virginia, there is an *AMAZNG* spa in Alexandria called Aida Spa.  Aida does Brazillians that are very low pain (she makes her own sugar wax, and doesn't use paper strips).

Her number is 703-535-7875.  look her up on yelp.com - her reviews speak for themselves :)

i left for Vegas on a Wednesday and went to her on Tuesday.  i did do a trial Brazillian about 2 months before that though - so i knew what to expect.

Agreed.  From a Male PoV, Landing strip, lightning bolt, heart, his favorite sports team logo- anything is better then bare- for the above stated reason.

I have been doing my own for yearsssssssssss (giving away my age). I am talking 10 plus years. I was doing this before it was fashionable everywhere. I had it first done when I was 19 in Brazil and then kept it up myself since no one offered it here until the early 2000.

As pp's have said it does freak some men out! I normally last 6-8 weeks but I am not a hairy person in general. For reference I have been growing my leg hair for 2 months to be long enough to wax before the weding.

If the area isn't used to waxing then yep it will be red for a while and be really careful and make sure your exfoliate afterwards to insure you don't get ingrown hairs.

Wow! Thanks for all of the replies...and I wondered if VG was going to show up in here!! FI is actually good with bare....actually been that way for years, but by shaving - which just causes tons of ingrowns, but I'm too scared (and shy) to go get it waxed. I guess I may start growing out to give it a try though..... Again, thanks for the info. Honestly, I would've just gone to my nail place, so good to know that you 'get what you pay for' in this case!!!

I understand the being shy part.  Remember that the person who waxes you looks at them all day long :)

Waxing is sooo way better than shaving. You will probably never look back. And ditto nycheryl. It is a little awkward, but it's nothing to be embarrassed about. I've been going to the same esthetician for a couple years now, and it's funny how we can be having a conversation about what kind of pizza we like while the whole event is taking place.

I agree with a lot of the advice above.  Take ibuprofen beforehand.  Definitely get it done before as a trial and keep going about every 4 weeks or so depending.  It either gets less painful or I am just getting used to it because it doesn't hurt as much.  You do have to have some hair growth (1/8-1/4 inch) so the wax has something to attach to.

I have done the sugaring also a few times but it didn't work as well for me (sometimes left fine hair behind).  Now I go to a place that has "all natural" wax with aloe vera in it.  They don't use the strips.  Works better than the sugaring.  Not sure why.

I think I got it done the Wednesday before our Saturday wedding and it lasted throughout our honeymoon.

You won't go back to shaving.  I'd like to do laser hair removal sometime in the future if I could afford it.

Another thing, if you spray-tan, removing the wax will mess that up in the bikini area/upper-inner thigh area that would show in a bathing suit.  So spray-tan the following day or so (just don't do it before).

Okay, I've never done it before and I have a stupid question.  Ladies, don't judge me.

When you go, are you completely, butt-azz naked?  Like, no little thong that the waxer can move around or anything?  Basically-- is this experience akin to seeing the gyno, in terms of what they see?

I am super private about that kind of stuff.  Of course, I'm not implying that you ladies show your vag around everywhere just because you get waxed, mind you, but if that's the way the whole experience goes down (they see EVERYTHING), then I gotta mentally psych myself up for this.

In the short term, yes.  But if you normally wax a lot (more than a few times a year), I'm sure it'd be worth it.  I've looked into it casually, and you have to go to more than a few sessions to ensure all the hair is gone.  I believe the cost is at least a couple hundred dollars a session, depending on where you live and what you're getting done.
