Changing Your Name?

Probably posted before but work is slow and I'm curious.

I'm changing my name and it's weird - I get random attitude from women at work about it. One lady told me, "That's so 80s."  LOLOLOL

I changed it, but made my maiden name my middle name.  I love my maiden name, so it was really difficult to let go!

FI signs his with only the first initial of the last name and a squiggly line. I will probably write it all out.

I have been practicing signing my new last name heh :)

Yes I am changing my name but like Olivea I am using my maiden name as my middle name which I think is the new hyphen haha. I know several ladies who have done it that way. I also got rid of my middle name, so I still have 3 names instead of 4 :)

I really can't stand FI's last name... haha... BUT I'm still changing mine to his. It helps that I don't like my maiden name either. :)

I have a very common, boring last name, so I am excited to change it.  If I was still in my old profession, I would have probably used both last names for a while and then transition to the new one once all of my business associates figured out that I got married.  However, since I am kind of starting fresh right now with a new career, I will be happy to use my new last name right away.

I have been wanting a different last name since I was old enough to spell my maiden name. Both of us have very interesting last names--so, it was a win-win to take Rich's. But, yes, people have definitely given me crap about changing it!!

Changed to his, nobody could pronounce my maiden name. After I changed my name on Facebook, which we all know makes it all official, a friend said my new name sounded like someone famous, lol.

I do like the maiden to middle switch, but mine just wouldn't have worked. McGillivray as a middle name, no thanks lol.

I've never heard of using your maiden name as your middle name. Interesting, but I'm only planning on changing my last name to DH's.

My first, middle and maiden last names are all at least 8 letters long so if I can shorten any one of them, I'm in! lol

My parents didn't give me a middle name when I was born, so I am pretty pumped to have one now!  DeFazio doesn't realy sound right as a middle name, but I love how Italian it is, and I'm pretty attached to it. Luckily it sounds okay with my new last name.

Did you ever get Laverne & Shirley cracks about your name? I had a friend in jr high with the last name DiFazio and everyone called her Laverne.and that was a good 20 years after the show had even been on the air. It all started with a teacher saying something!

My maiden name is Horton. Yes... like Dr. Seuss's elephant. I've been called "Horton Who"... or "Horton Hears a Who"... all my life. My fiance's last name is Bigelow. Yes... like Deuce Bigelow.  Lose/Lose?  Yep, I think so.

HA! Sometimes. My mom and I used to watch that show when I was younger all the time, I loved it!  None of my friends ever got it, but sometimes teachers or older people would reference it.

Olivea--- have you had any confusion since adding a middle name? My HR dept. pre filled out paperwork for my life insurance in order to change my marital status & so I could add HH as beneficiary. So of course they leave my middle initial and just change last name, so I had to email them and let them know about my new middle initial. The first question was, "are you changing it on your SS card?" ummm YES. I guess they thought I only was changing my middle name for work? IDK.

I have a feeling people  are going to get confused!

D - No, not really, but only because I don't have many places I actually need to change my name at. I only work part time for my dad, so as of right now I don't have any HR people to deal with, insurance, etc. I am actually going to be able to start completely fresh with a new name whenever I find a job.

nicole-- my maiden named was pronounced depending where you were born IE my california relatives vs. my ohio relatives.

Olivea--good luck on your interview I read about! and lucky u to start over with a new name. My current work and personal email has my maiden name in it, and I refuse to change it at work. Just too much confusion!

I did change my name and kept my maiden as my middle.  It is funny to me that you guys are talking about making your maiden name your middle name like it is unusual.  It is funny because I am from NC and I don't know if it is a south thing, but pretty much EVERYONE I know that is married made their maiden their middle, and took their husband's name.  I don't think it ever crossed mine or my friends' minds that we wouldn't change ours.  So different!

I plan on it, but I'm not a huge fan of my last name, Winter.  I have always hated the "season" comments when I say my last name. And I love FI's last name - McCann!

I know many ladies that have done this and I like it. I think I'm seeing the hyphenating more and more though.

I'm fine with getting rid of my maiden name, I've had it for 30 years - it's had a good run :)

I don't plan on changing my name.  It's too much hassle and I don't want to have to pay the money to update my passport, driver's license, health card, etc.
