March 2012 Weddings

Yay! Crisis Averted!

I'm one of those brides who REALLY does not want to see their FI before the ceremony.  When he first sees me in my dress I want it to be when I'm walking down the aisle and that's always been important to me.

Yesterday I got an email from my wedding coordinator that both FI and I had to come to her office at least half an hour before the ceremony to sign paperwork.  This was definitely not how I'd timed out the day and I was worried that it required us to go in together and therefor we'd see each other.   I did think up acute first look idea, but it's just not what I wanted.

But this morning she sent a clarification email that we do NOT have to be there at the same time!  So we'll stick with the original plan where we get off the ship at different times.

And on a related note, we got our ceremony script and I love it!  We also got some ideas for readings and one made me burst into tears last night so I think we'll definitely go with that!  For anyone who remembers, I met my FI at the end of a really bad marriage and he and his friends and family really helped me at a very dark time of my life.  This reading was about love and healing and SO perfect for us!  I think my Mom will do the reading and I imagine I'll be in tears again!

I believe in a lot of things. I believe in fresh tennis balls, the healing power of bunnies, and that the novels of Susan Sontag are something I'll never read. In fact, I don't even know who Susan Sontag is. What is she... like... a painter? I believe in Crystal Lite because I believe in ME. I believe in the movies of Val Kilmer, though these days it ain't so easy. I believe in Darren Sproles, the word "dabble", the first season of "Silk Stockings", and big, warm, moist, gooey chocolate chip cookies that melt in your mouth and all over your face.

Re: Yay! Crisis Averted!

  • I worked on our wedding script last night and never really found a reading I liked. My FI started dating after I ended a bad marriage, too. Would you mind PMing me the reading you are using? It sounds great.

Glad you can avert seeing each other! I'm still on the fence about pics before or after...
  • We are also having trouble finding a second reading, so definitely share yours if you don't mind! My FI is the one who had the bad marriage... I'm so glad we found each other!

  • I'll just post them here!  The first is called "The Blessing of the Hands".  The part about wiping tears and grieving is what made me start crying!

    Blessing of the Hands

These are the hands of your best friend, young and strong and vibrant with love,

that are holding yours on your wedding day, as you promise to love each other

all the days of your lives. These are the hands that will work alongside yours, as

together you build your future. These are the hands that will passionately love

you and cherish you through the years, and with the slightest touch, comfort you

like no other. These are the hands that will countless times wipe the tears from

your eyes: tears of sorrow and tears of joy. These are the hands that will comfort

you in illness or console you when you are grieving. These are the hands that

will hold your children in tender love, soothing them through illness and hurts,

supporting and encouraging them along the way, and knowing when it’s time to

let go. And lastly, these are the hands that even when wrinkled and aged, will still

be reaching for yours, still giving you the same unspoken tenderness with just a

    touch.

    Then for our second reading (a religious one) we chose this;

    Song of Solomon 2:10, 13,16

My Beloved spake, and said to me, Rise up my love, my fair one, and come
away. For low, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone; Flowers appear on
the earth; the time of the singing of birds is come, and the voice of the turtle is
heard in our land; The fig tree putteth forth her green figs, and the vines with
the tender grapes give a good smell. Arise my love, my fair one, come away. My
beloved is mine and I am his.

  • Thank you! I REALLY like the verses from Song of Solomon. I've been trying to avoid things form my first marriage...the typical Corinthians, ect. This is very appropriate! YAY!
  • We're doing handfasting and reading that blessing of the hands. I think it's beautiful!
