Waiting... Vibes Needed...

So, without giving away too much for privacy reasons, I am a volunteer for Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep and last night I got a call and I'm on hold for a client at the hospital today.  My heart always sinks when I get these phone calls.  I just can't imagine what the family is going through.  They could really use your thoughts and prayers today!  I don't know anything else about them really, other than the fact that today will probably be the worst day of their life.

I believe in a lot of things. I believe in fresh tennis balls, the healing power of bunnies, and that the novels of Susan Sontag are something I'll never read. In fact, I don't even know who Susan Sontag is. What is she... like... a painter? I believe in Crystal Lite because I believe in ME. I believe in the movies of Val Kilmer, though these days it ain't so easy. I believe in Darren Sproles, the word "dabble", the first season of "Silk Stockings", and big, warm, moist, gooey chocolate chip cookies that melt in your mouth and all over your face.

Re: Waiting... Vibes Needed...

  • I don't know what it is either, but from the name alone, I will be praying for the strength and comfort of the family.
  • I'm pretty sure it is an organization that comes in and takes pictues of a couple with their deceased baby :( They are usually preemies or children with extreme defects who don't live a life longer than maybe a week. The photographer comes to the hospital and takes all the pictures you would want of your child. Their little finger wrapped around their parents. Their little feet. The baby in the parents arms. Etc...

    This is from their website:
The Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep mission is to introduce remembrance photography to parents suffering the loss of a baby with the free gift of professional portraiture. Thousands of families from many different backgrounds and faiths have received services as a way to capture these precious images of their baby. Many families are unprepared for the loss they will suffer. Sometimes having only moments with their child, these images provide tangible proof that their child was real. For many, this is an important part of their healing process. NILMDTS has a network of 7,000 photographers worldwide.

On their website it states that the Duggers actually recently used this same program.
  • Yes, the Duggars recently used NILMDTS for their little Jubilee.  There are a lot of reasons why we may be called in to take photos, sometimes we actually capture the birth of a still born, are called in for a micro preemie not expected to make it, or if there is a genetic or other sort of disorder that will make life unsustainable, or a baby is being taken off life support.  Sometimes the babies are still with us, sometimes they have already passed.  But it still never ceases to amaze me how beautiful each one is.

I'm actually really happy the Duggars used NILMDTS because it's been getting a TON of media attention lately.  I'm always so sad to find out a family learned of the service after it was too late.  That's actually why I started doing it, a girl I know had a little preemie that sadly didn't make it and she didn't know about the service until after he'd passed.  Now if I know anyone who has to face this sort of tragedy I can at least let them know the service exists.

  • May I ask what Now I lay Me Down to Sleep is?  I'm assuming it is some sort of Hospice care?  My prayers are going out to the family.
  • This is really sad and I wish I wouldn't have opened this thread. :(
