Yes yes the feast of the immaculate conception. I haven't celebrated that since my time in Parochial schools for HS. but I s urely remember. I have not only work today, but a work dinner tonight. Which should be fun but i have an incredibly rude coworker, who acts and dresses inappropiately. So I am dreading going with her. My boss is taking us to one of the nicest restaurants in the state and its pretty fancy schmancy. So I dressed up a little more than normal for work (and even put on makeup!) and she goes "this isnt a christmas party, we are just going to dinner, why are you wearing heels?" OY. forgive me for trying to be a bit festive. then she said she didint want to go because she doesnt like to order off a menu and apparently the chef at this resturant doesnt like that. I asked her how she ordered then at restaurants and she said that she just tells them "how to cook" the food she wants. fml

wow. Ya know, I understand food allergies, or even asking for one item to be left out, but people who are just obnoxiously picky about food kind of bug me. It's like, remind me again why exactly you bother to eat at all if all you're going to eat is chicken nuggets and noodles without any kind of sauce...at all.
  • Thanks for the religous education ladies!  I'm kinda excited because my invitations are suposed to be arriving today.  It was 64 degrees in my office this morning, so, I'm camped out in front of my space heater.

  • I don't remember the Feast of the Immaculate Conception at all. I was never a good Catholic and I dropped out at 14, a year before I was to be confirmed. My parents continued going for another year or so, but then switched to a non-denominational church. I don't know if they go anywhere now that they live in the boonies. My sisters dropped the Catholic church in their teens also. I think we're the "heathens" of my mom's family, as the rest of the family is still Catholic and most of my married cousins had Catholic weddings. Ha, oh well. I'm sure my completely secular, no mention of God or Jesus, wedding was quite the shock to them in July!!! ;)

<div>I'm making mine by hand, and I'm so giddy to do it. I keep wanting to start but my mom and BMs are all like, 'you have TEN months!' The invitations are the part I think I'm most excited about, so I can somewhat understand how you feel about actually receiving them!</div>

THIS! I tried to tell my parents at the age of 7 that I didn't believe Jesus was the son of god, just a really great guy...they forced me to keep going to catechism till I was confirmed into the church though, which I found to be ridiculous.

It was super frustrating because my father is a blatant athiest so it was contradictory for him to force his kids to go to church when he didn't even believe in it himself (when he got married he promised the church he would raise his children Catholic, I guess at the very least he kept his promise).

I like to tell people I'm a recovering Catholic now.

confirmation before adulthood seems slightly silly to me, because even though at 17, you're making some decisions for yourself, you are still very much under your parents control. I want to raise my kids catholic, but I don't know that I'm going to force them into confirmation.

fair enough. Last encounter I had with urgent care was not a good one. Doctor tried to convince my FI he had an infection of the prostate but wouldn't check it because "we don't check it when it's enlarged." we're all fairly certain it was just a kidney infection, but the doctor couldn't stoop to a commoner having fairly accurate knowledge of human anatomy and had to tell us it was something else, but just gave us antibiotics and sent us away.
In Response to Re: Good Morning!!!!!!!!!!!! : Honestly if my parents had been more open and let me have more say in my religious "upbringing" I feel like I wouldn't have rebelled as hard and I might still attend church. Because of the rigidity of my upbringing with the church, I can honestly say I will never want to attend again and if I have children I would never intentionally take them myself (though if they requested to go I would allow them to attend with a relative)
    Posted by entropicbeauty
i feel the same way, although now my kids are asking. luckily FI is more religious than me, so he can "church" them at home. They aren't even baptised because my exH & I couldn't agree on what to baptise them, and now I just feel like a hypocrite.

I'm a confirmed Catholic but I left the church at age 17 and practic a different religion now.  I respect people religious beliefs and knowing Catholism is something I usually am pretty good at given my Mom still practicing and giving that she really drilled it into us growing up (<strong>CCD was a MUST!</strong>)

Ugh you just gave me nightmares.... I suffered through 9 years of CCD before my parents gave in and let me quit.

I told my parents that if they made me get confirmed, I would be honest when asked if I wanted to devote my life to Jesus (or whatever it is they ask you) and say no. That may have had something to do with them allowing me to stop CCD, not sure.

I used "retired Catholic" but I like recovering!!

I completely agree. Most churches in my area confirm at the end of 8th grade which is age 14 for most. My church was different and confirmed at the end of 10th grade/age 16. If we had gone to another local church, I would have been confirmed because I was still forced to attend church and CCD in 8th grade! 9th grade was the last year I was forced to go, so I JUST got out as I believe 10th grade CCD was spent preparing for confirmation.

Man is it getting difficult to keep track of who is posting what when!

My little sister just got her son baptised, which REALLY surprised me being that she doesn't believe in the institution of marriage and HATED going to church and catechism...but I guess to each their own. She doesn't take the kid to church and probably won't, she just utterly baffles me with that decision!
