Plus-Sized

has anyone else

Felt forced to order out of a catalog????

Re: has anyone else

• A wedding dress! The store I went to yesterday only had four dresses in my size. Then wanted me to choose out of the catalog! I am going to go an Alfred Angelo store. It is over an hour away but I will get to try on more dresses and I know they have what I like!
• I would recommend you try and go to a store that has more plus size dresses available before resorting to ordering out of a catalog. There are some ladies here who find the dress they love and order it without trying it on and are completely satisfied. I personally couldn't do that, so I would recommend that you try some other places first. I think trying AA is a good idea.

• I would recommend you get to the closet major city with multiple salons and make a day/weekend of it. And, call ahead and talk to them honestly and bluntly over the phone. Say 'I am a size ___ in street clothes. Please tell me how many different styles/dresses you have IN THE STORE for me to try on that will be close to my size." I did that, and I didn't go to any store with less than 10 dresses for me to try on.

I realize it may be a long drive. But, it will be worth it. Get up early on a Saturday, have breakfast and drive an hour or two. Get a cheapo motel for Saturday night. Make 2-3 appointments at salons for Saturday and 2-3 for Sunday. If you do the leg work ahead of time by calling, you won't end up having to order from a catalogue.
• I am going to more stores . The aa store near me has plus size dresses and my sisters agreed to try on dress so I can see dress I like before I resort to catalogs. I might go to David's bridal but I have heard only bad things about the one near me .

This may not be the best option. Although you will be able to see what the dress looks like.... unless your sister has the exact body type as you, it may not look the same on you as it does her.

Davids Bridal is hit or miss... there are quite a few ladies on here that have purchased their dresses from Davids, and have loved them and look amazing. Don't rule out ANY option you will have to try the dress on yourself. Good Luck!!!!
• The nearest Davids bridal to be is lynhurst. My sisters are similar in body shape just thinner...lol I can't wait to try on tons of dresses
• I don't know how far northeast you are in ohio, but there is a store in St. clair Shores, MI, called Bombshell Bridal that carries ONLY plus size dresses. It's pretty awesome if you can make trip.
• I bought mine from a catalog before I tried it on. I could find a lot of plus size gowns to try on, but none that were what I was looking for... luckily when it came it fit and I loved it and the months of anxiety were all for naught. I hope you can find what you're looking for to try on. If you do order from a catalog, just make sure it will come in time to do any tweaking you may want to do. My seamstress is creating custom straps so I can wear a real bra with my dress, for example. I purchased mine from Coming Attractions in Akron, if that's close to you. They had a decent plus size selection to try on.
• Your dress is really pretty! Akron isn't that far from me...

Hi,I decided against going to an actual store. I'm plus sized and I know that some stores have a limit on sizes and looks. I ordered my gown from Simplybridal.com. Now before you panic, this is a legit site. There was an article about them on yahoo.com. They have custom made gowns for a cheap price but it's awesome quality and they tailor it to your body size. All you have to do is get a professional to take your measurements and then order. The gown is sewn from scratch, pressed and shipped in 30 days. My gown was $250. It fit perfectly. Also, it looked exactly how it did on the website in person. Here is the link http://www.simplybridal.com/shop/sirena-gown. Hope tis helps :)

Would you mind posting some pictures of your actual dress?
• Not sure if you've already purchased your dress, but I've heard wonderful things about this plus-side bridal boutqiue just outside of Pittsburgh called Koda Bridal. Might be worth it to call and check out!
