**snorge**

Any details you can share about the conversation with Evil Boss? Did she throw things? Did YOU throw things? ;-)(I saw Stace ask and I second her question, but wasn't sure if you'd go back to look at the GM post since you're busy. Sooo, I'm calling you out...lol)

Heehee--thanks for poking me (TWSS!)...I've had something of a revolving door here as people hear the news, so I've been AWOL a bit this morning. This'll be long, so pull up a chair!  ;o) The first convo with EB was pretty harmless. She sounded VERY surprised, and said (I took notes, no kidding), "I hate for you to go." (um, really?!) Of course, she then added, "because we were just starting to get into a groove on a lot of things." (yeah, if this is your idea of a groove, then I REALLY need to get out of here!) She asked about the job, if I'm getting a higher salary, etc. She asked if I'd been looking for a while, or if I've been unhappy, and I just kept it very generic--this is a great professional opportunity for me, it's exactly the field I want to be in, etc. We basically left it at that; she said she'd have to digest it a bit, since this is big news, and would call me back later in the afternoon or today with thoughts on the transition (oh goodie!).So she calls back not 10 min. later, and says that she needs to understand more why I'm leaving. "It would have been really helpful if Good Boss and I had known earlier...I may have to rearrange my whole travel schedule now to deal with this, and it's going to mean a lot more work for me." (well, it would've been helpful for ME if you hadn't been so awful, so let's call it even, shall we?!) She asked again if I'd been unhappy and if I'd been job searching for a while, because it "really would've been helpful to have known earlier." I just repeated that it was a great opportunity for me, etc. "Is this something you've been working on for a long time?" Nope, it really just popped up recently, and since it's such a perfect fit for me, I would've been foolish not to apply--but I wasn't actively searching for a new job."Didn't they need references from us?" Nope--they did ask for references, but not from here...I gave them the names of people I'd worked with previously, when I was actually in the specific field they're hiring me for."Why would you leave such a prestigious institution to go somewhere so small?" Because I actually really love that type of environment--it's what I had at my last job, and I really miss it.She repeated several more times that it would've been helpful to know sooner, that if I was unhappy I should've said something, etc. (no doubt if I admit that I've been unhappy for, oh, the entire time I've worked with her, she would blame my departure on my poor communication skills--"if only she'd said something to me..."). I just responded that I've been generally happy (which is fairly true), and again, this is a great opportunity..."Did GB know?!" Nope, he just found out today as well. And then, the crowning glory: "I'm not sure if our exchanges over the past month factored in?" I'd been hedging her questions about it, but this one was pretty direct--so I said that I had been very unhappy with our exchanges over the past month, but that I would be taking the job regardless because it's such a good fit for me. She then said, rather abruptly, "Okay, thanks--bye."She is utterly lacking in social skills...and seriously, do you need to ASK if I was happy?! No, I thrive at getting b!tch-slapped repeatedly through the phone! But I tried to keep it bland and professional. The people who really need to know why I'm leaving, and who can do something about fixing the situation for the next person, already know.It didn't occur to me until the second phone call that it's entirely possible we'll have this same conversation every day for the next 10 days...at least there's a light at the end of the tunnel!Wow, does this qualify as a short story, or a novella?  ;o)

Wow, she's more inept than I thought she was.  Way to take the high road, though, (especially because you could pepper your story to us with your real thoughts!).  Hopefully you can have some fun at her expense over the next two weeks!

I did particularly love the "didn't they need references?!" one...do you seriously think I would EVER use you as a reference?! And really, what world do you live in that you think I was obligated to tell you I was looking for another job?!

"It would have been really helpful if Good Boss and I had known earlier...I may have to rearrange my whole travel schedule now to deal with this, and it's going to mean a lot more work for me."Huh.  Guess you'll just have to DEAL WITH IT.  I can't believe she kept asking you if you were happy...uh, clearly she is asking that because she knew she was making you crrrraaaaaazzzzy every day.

I'm glad that you told her that the exchanges were unpleasant though.  She really does need to know that the way she treats employees is unacceptable.  I can't believe that she told you that you leaving would inconvenience her.  Uh, DUH!

Haha! Love that you took notes. Does your company do an exit interview? Ours does, and it's an HR person instead of direct managers, because they really want the dirt on current bosses, etc. It'd be a great opportunity to give honest feedback about EB (which I translate to be evil b!tch, not boss :P)

EB seems like a real jem.  She was probably toying with the idea of trying to get you to stay, until she realized that she was part of the problem and not willing to change!  You seem really happy about your new job and you definitely have a light at the end of the tunnel!

Wow! Evil Boss maybe isn't evil, just crazy! I so knew you'd take notes on your convo with her. ;-) And I think you're right...you'll be going through the same conversation with her every day until you leave! New job can't come soon enough, huh? lol

I don't know whether I'll get an exit interview (they're kinda inconsistent about that here), but I went to both HR and the powers-that-be when all the sh!t was hitting the fan a few weeks ago--so the people that need to know are already in the loop. =) And seriously, I think EB is the ONLY one surprised that I'm leaving! Everyone else might be surprised at the timing, but are not at all surprised in general.

oh wow.  I'm so glad you told her how it is when she asked about your confrontations.  She knows she piissed all over you and now she's totally regretting it. Good that it messes up her schedule!

I started to laugh when you abbriviated Evil boss (or B!tch) to EB cause those are my current innitials lolanyway hopefully if this conversation continues to happen over the remaining days of your time there she won't press for any more details, cause I know I would have a hard time not snapping and saying "Look crazy!!!" well and then a whole bunch of thing you probably shouldn't say to someone that you've been working for. But at least your "fire proof" now :)
