July 2013 Weddings

Got my dress... not what I was expecting

I got engaged in December, and I am getting married in July. So I knew I had a short time frame to find a dress... luckily I found my dress this weekend off the rack! Brand new dress! TOTAL OPPOSITE of what I thought I wanted... but FI came with me (untraditional, I know, but he is my best friend and I trust his opinion) and we both loved it! But since it is not 'white' or 'ivory'... I need some advice on accessories, a veil, flowers, etc that will go with this amazing dress!! HELP! I am trying to find a matching veil too if anyone knows of any online anywhere! thanks ladies!!

*and yes I did post this in 'Attire' thread as well

  • For jewelry and flowers I think you could accessorize the same as you would if you were wearing ivory. It definitely depends on your personal style and the feel of your wedding. What kind of flowers are you having for the rest of your wedding? Do you tend to like pearls or rhinestones -- do you wear simple or elaborate jewelry?

Not sure about a veil though, I would ask the bridal shop that you bought it from if they could custom order one for you or if they know what other brides who have ordered that dress did.

  • Thank you for the advice! Originally I was going to have Sunflowers... but I think that the yellow and the pink might be a little too bold. Maybe I should go with white and pink flowers? I havent ordered anything yet (as far as flowers or invites) and I am not having bridesmaids. There are rhinestones on the dress, so maybe I should do a headpiece with jewels? I am usually not a flashy person, and honestly I am not very fashion concious.. lol... so I just dont want to overdo anything, especially with such a bold dress!! So any advice is very useful!! :)

  • For flowers, I would stick to white/ivory/pinks to avoid anything competing with your gown.

For accessories, I would try to stick with what is in your sash.

And for a veil. . . I got mine at distinctiveveils.com and am very happy with it. They have a pink and will send you a free swatch so you can compare. The color chart is here: http://www.distinctiveveils.com/brilweveco.html
  • I agree, I think sunflowers would be suited for something more casual. But I think you could still get away with colored flowers if you really wanted...maybe in pastels or jewel tones.

I searched pink wedding gown on pinterest and here are some of my favorite images:

I also think simple white or ivory flowers would be beautiful too. My bridesmaids will be in blush pink dresses and I am making them baby's breath bouquets. Garden roses, ranunculous, hydrangea would all be beautiful too.

Since you don't like to be too flashy, I think I simple hairpiece to complement your dress would be very pretty. Or even if put a couple of flowers in your hair that match your bouquet. I'd also stay simple with jewelry, maybe a strand of pearls and pearl studs for earrings. For shoes, maybe go with champagne and silver.
