September 2012 Weddings

are you giving plated dinner options?

Hello ladies.

We are planning our reception menu. I am just curious if anyone is giving menu options. (ie chicken, beef or pork) We'd like to give our guests this option, but it seems it would be easiest to just pick it ourselves.

In the event we pick it ourselves, my FI really wants the pork dish. A breaded pork tenderloin, very delicious, but may not be everyone's first choice. Since we are offering other food is it okay to choose the main meat as something not everyone might like? I know we won't be able to please every single guest. Other foods offered are: several hot and cold appetizers, soup, salad, two sides (potato & vegetable), assorted breads, desert and wedding cake. Plus a late night snack.

Am I just thinking too much about all this???

Re: are you giving plated dinner options?

  • Typically people do chicken, another meat type, and then they add specialty meals (vegetarian, allergy) if people have dietary restrictions.  I would give your guests at least two meat choices since that is the "main" part of your meal.  If budget is causing an issue at least offer them a meat and a vegetarian dish.

We are doing a stations menu that serves a bit of everything so the guest don't get a "choice" on the rsvp card, but they are free to try a variety of dishes.  We are just asking for a heads up on the rsvp card if they have any dietary restrictions.  The vendor will provide plated meals accordingly.

<div>Ditto the bold. I like pork, but know a lot of people that don't. Usually people try to have two meats and a vegeterian option, but we're doing two meats and several veggies on the side. That way if people don't like one, they can have the other. But for what its worth, I really like pork tenderloin!</div>
  • We're doing an option of chicken, beef tenderloin or veggie (pasta).

I like pork tenderloin, but chicken would probably be a safer bet. Some people don't eat pork for religious reasons.

  • When rsvp'ing guests have the option to choose a vegetarian meal or state any other dietary restriction that we will accommodate. Other than that, everyone will have the same plated meal; it has both chicken and beef. We are serving grilled beef tenderloin and roasted chicken breast medallion.

  • We have picked 2 of the meals off the menu because they would only prepare two diferent types. Then we put each meal on the invites and guests will pick with dinner they want before arriving.

  • we'll be having three options:
    -chicken
-beef (possibly fish, we haven't had our tasting yet, but i assumed the second option would be beef)
    -vegetable (and ask for restrictions)

i myself am a vegan, and i really appreciate when people take my dietary concerns into consideration. it was terrible one time, i had a plate with chicken, mashed potatoes, and asparagus wrapped in bacon. i literally couldn't eat anything. but, when i have had vegan meals at weddings, they've been amazing, some of the best meals i've ever had.
    Happily married since 9/1/2012!

  • We are having a ribeye option and a baked stuffed haddock option. Most of the people we are inviting will enjoy either of them but we will also have a vegitarian option for those who let us know they would prefer it. A couple of my friends are vegitarian but will eat fish. That's a big reason for us choosing the fish option and fi's family is more into steak than chicken so we've nixed the chicken.

  • We are doing a beef and chicken option.  Our reception site said at the beginning of the meal, the server will get any restrictions such as Vegetarian, Gluten Free, Allergies, etc.  We were told a few weeks before they had "Raw Vegan"  We were assured everyone will have a meal that they can eat.

  • The catering package that came with our venue included 3 meal options, but we bargained for 4. So our guests will have a choice between chicken, beef, fish, and vegetarian.

Personally, I prefer to have a choice for my meal, but that's because I have dietary restrictions. If you're going to pick the same meal for everyone though, then I'd stick with either beef or chicken. Those are usually safe bets.

  • We are serving dinner family style. The main course entrees will be a Portuguese dish- Pork & Clams and then Chicken Piccatta; also on the table will be squashes, barley, broccoli rabe and the other courses are a salad and a macaroni. On the invite there will be a space to list dietary restictions & a vegetarian dish is available. So guests can have the chicken, the pork or both.
  • We are also serving family style.  A chicken and a beef.  On the RSVP there will be a note to state if you want a Vegetarian meal or not or if there are allergies we need to be made aware of.
  • We are having a beef, a chicken and a seafood (shimp) as well as a vegetarian option. The venue is  a restaurant, and they will print menus with the options and take guests orders day of (for about 110 people).

I know many people who do not eat pork, have at least another option. No one wants to just pick at sides.
  • We are still debating on a plated dinner or buffet (money issues).  We have chosen the food, just need to pick the presentation.

Our guests will not be given a plated dinner option.  They would get a duo of filet mignon and crab stuffed shrimp.  If they have a food restriction they can let us know and the caterer will make a special meal for them.
