Invitations

Hello ladies!  I have never posted on the board but I read all your good questions/suggestions everyday!  I am a Sept 8th bride who is doing a mix of DIY and leaving it to the professionals.

Right now I am trying to figure out my invitations.  I have found the paper I would like to use and there is a printer/copy shop that has been recommended to me.  My problem is designing the invitations...I have no idea how to start!  The invitation will be going into a pocket that has 3 extra inserts on the right.  My colors are grey and yellow and the wedding is modern.  Are there pre-made templates or anything out there that I can customize?  I don't necessarily want graphics on the invite but I don't want it to be centered text straight down.  I know how to use programs like word and power point but I have no graphic design experience and neither does my fiance.

What do you ladies suggest?  TIA!

Re: Invitations

  • Why don't you check Etsy.com for some inspiration or even buy a pdf file that you can print yourself. It can be inexpensive and very nice :)

  • I was going to suggest exactly what mama said.  Even scoping out invitation websites for inspiration may help too.  Etsy just tends to be a little more creative and custom
  • Welcome to the board!!
Ditto on PP's or you can also google wedding invitations and see if anything catches your eye... if you can work word/powerpoint you can "recreate" anything you like. You might also look on Vistaprint, again you can recreate if you see something you like.
GL hope someones advise helps out! Keep posting and let us know what you decide on! We LOVE to hear the details!!! Smile
  • Welcome to the board! I agree with the Etsy idea, I found 3 or 4 on there I like and kinda created a merged version of them all hahaha
  • I designed my own in Microsoft Word actually, it wasn't hard. We are doing modern invitations with purple and gray.... a gray pocketfold with purple background on the inserts. If you want, I can send you the templates I made up and you can feel free to change up the fonts and stuff. I was really particular about my fonts matching everything and I downloaded a specialty font.

Anyway, PM me and I'll send you my stuff. Just FYI, mine are all made to fit the standard size pocketfold on cardsandpockets.com and I'm using their print shop. I tried a local print shop but the invitations came out way too glossy for my taste. Cards and pockets had the best printing (and GREAT customer service!) and very reasonable prices. Like I said, PM me if you want more info!
  • I know this is late but I used a template to get my basic idea from the free invitation suite on the Wedding Chicks website.

The template ended up not having enough  lines, but I was able to "copy" it enough in Microsoft Publisher and recreate it to what I wanted.
