September 2012 Weddings

guest list fail...

i've been tracking my guest list on an excel spreadsheet. we've always said that we'd like to keep the guest count to around 125, max 150  As I was putting in some last minute additions, I had to recalculate my sheet. Opps. We're at 167! Yikes.  Apparently my formula on the sheet wasn't calculating all the cells in the column, I thought we were right around 140. Which was more than we wanted, but still managable.

Big fat fail on my part. We'll manage, but I can't believe I did that. Here I was thinking we were in great shape. LOL.

Re: guest list fail...

  • That sucks... glad it wasn't off by TOO much!

I have the Excel counter thing set up too and discovered it was wrong a while back. I'm pretty sure it's fine now, but that is frustrating!
  • I felt the same way when we went from 300 to 325 lol FI had been talking to a couple family friends and said 'well of course you're invited' but they hadn't made the list... when they did there was that momentary 'Oh S$&^' moment lol
  • Oh geez!  If we all of a sudden had an extra 20 something guests I would freak the fluck out!  I think we already have too many guests (inviting 162) but I wanted a small wedding soooo yeaaa
  • Our guest list is bigger than we intended to be as well.... I know that you are NEVER supossed to do this but we invited more than our venue can hold. BUT ...ALL of Fiance's family is from out of state (and he's not close to many of them) so I know a lot won't be able to come. A lot of our friends are out of state as well.

I may be posting a freak out post when RSVP's start coming in though. LOL

  • Eeek! That's one thing that I love about weddingwire.com. It calculates as I add or delete people so I have consistent and up to date numbers at all times for all the different events. I can then export those lists to excel and totally customize them.

You're way to nice... My Aunt asked me the same thing and I had to tell her that she and my uncle were not invited.  They are estranged from my Mom and my Mom is more important to me than my Aunt/Uncle who I have not seen in 10+ years.   After I told her "no" she complained about my Mom and then un-friended me on Facebook.   She justified my decision to not invite them.

    Don't you just love family?

I'm with you on this one!  I'm normally an Excel nerd (the financial analyst in me) but once I found out you could import and export to/from Excel it was love.  And I'm super excited the RSVPs will be through there and then it will hopefully just be a quick process to use the seating tool.
  • yeah, when we were touring places we thought we'd have 125-ish. turns out we are inviting over 200 people!
    Happily married since 9/1/2012!

Gosh, this is almost exactly my situation!  Except Aunt was fairly graceful about it, at least to our faces.  Cousin, however, was passive-aggressivly biitching about me on Facebook for awhile.  I plan to unfriend them later when it won't cause as much drama - in the meantime, they're on Limited Profile.

OP, hope you get some declines!  Our guestlist grew a bit, too, but I'm hearing from people I expected to make it that they won't be able to, so I'm hopeful our total numbers will still be lower.
