Ugh - Programs...

*Also posted this on the FB group this morning*

I'm beginning to stress over programs. We haven't even met with the officiate yet to plan out the ceremony. I have a basic outline for the programs started on word (I'm doing the paddle fans) but I've found one that I love on Etsy, but $80 for just the digital file seems really pricey to me. I didn't pay that much for the invitation suite that I had designed.  What do you think?

Re: Ugh - Programs...

  • That seems a little steep to me too. Have you priced around other places?

  • That definitely seems steep to me.  For $80 I'd play with it myself using scrap paper and clip art.  You still have some time so if your gut (and wallet) say it is pricey, take some more time to look.
  • that seems VERY high to me.  I think you could do that yourself.  There are DIY tutorialls for these.
  • I did download a template (clicky) for the fans, and found out from another knottie on the DIY board that the font is called Aphrodite.  Its not a free font though, so I downloaded a similar one, Sciptina.  I guess I don't consider myself very computer/design savvy!

BMcLeodTeam what are some places that you would recommend?

I just did my own last night, using that paddle fan you posted as inspiration.  Took me less than an hour to design the file!

Is it just me, or is the font on those programs SUPER light?  I did mine with a rather transparent swirly "M" (for my new last name) with our first names calligraphied over it in a darker blue, with our wedding date at the bottom.  They turned out so purty!

I found the way the Etsy vendor wrote on their page there super pompous - he's trying to convince people they can't do these themselves, with all his years of experience, yadda yadda yadda.  You need his expertise to know how to cut them?  Seriously?  Any decent graphic designer adds print instructions and crop marks which clearly show where and how to cut.  Honestly, you could do a decent job with just Microsoft Word as long as you kept it fairly simple.  And $80?!  I doubt he spends more than 20 minutes designing each one.   Especially as the full invitation suite is only $25 on their site!

I'm all for Etsy vendors (I am one), but I wouldn't give my money to someone with such an overinflated ego.  Especially with such overinflated prices.
