Skipping Favors

My FI and I think that we should skip favors because we are having a very small wedding & he's afraid of spending any more money. Is this a good idea? and Is anybody else doing this?

Re: Skipping Favors

  • We are! I was kind of worried that people might sideeye it at first, but most of the people I ask can't a remember what the favor was from the last wedding they went to and b said they wouldnt miss it. We have a big cake and ice cream will be included in our food package from the venue, so I see no reason to serve another food ten as a favor and can't think of anything else worth my money. You're definitely not alone!
  • Personally, I wouldn't think much of it. Usually, they're such a waste of money/effort anyway (and like you said, no one uses them orr remembers them). Unless of course, you come up with something awesome or original.

We're doing a photobooth so the pictures will be our favors. Originally I wanted to also have small potted succulents for favors, but unless I can get them from Home Depot or something, it's going to be costly. So yep. I don't blame you a bit.

  • We're not doing favors either.  I was told if people can't eat it then don't give it out.  To me it seems like a waste of money and honestly, I cannot remember one favor I got from anyone's wedding.  We are also having a dessert bar and ice cream cake...I just can't see anyone being upset if they didn't get a little trinket that they'll lose anyway :-)
  • Thanks for the advice!
  • We're not doing favors but we are making a donation to a local Veteran's charity instead.

  • We're skipping favors. Most weddings I've been to haven't had favors, and nobody cares much about them if they are there.

<div>Ditto this. We were going to, but it just seems like a waste.</div>
  • we are actually doing them, but mostly because we had already budgeted for it and we found something we really liked.  But, it isn't a tragedy to skip them.
  • We decided to do favors after much discussion, and I actually did them myself....burned a list of our favorite music, got the labels online for cheap, put them in plain cardboard cases which I stamped with our monogram letters and wrote a personal thank you inside...the music is good, and so I figured they will enjoy it....cuz so not a fan of Jordan almonds lol or tulle wrapped anything...having said that, I think no favors is perfectly fine!
  • I think it's fine to skip them. We're doing them but they're just going to be a two-pack of these really good cookies that are sort of a local icon (it's like part of my childhood!).

  • We aren't doing them either.
  • We're skipping them. Couldn't think of anything we really thought was fun that was in our budget, that wouldn't suffer from the heat, AND that people could take home on a plane (more than 1/3 of our guests are flying in).

  • We're skipping them.  I'm kind of tired of going to weddings and getting champagne glasses with someone else's name and wedding date engraved on them... I've started leaving even candy favors behind.  Save your money or put it toward something else that will be appreciated!
  • I don't think it's a big deal.  Don't do it just to do it, does that make sense?  Like I have enough heart shaped wine stoppers with the couple's monogram on it to last a lifetime - my initial is not L, and nor is my FI's, so it's not something we use every day.  And koozies are cute, but after the 3rd Southern summer wedding, we have 6 of them between the 2 of us, which is more than we'll ever use at one time.

We're having cupcakes from our favorite cupcake place in DC with a custom monogram on it - it means something to us, and we're not having cake so it's our way of saying, "Let them eat cake" (tee hee) for those who really want it!  And-plus-also these cupcakes are far better than any cake I've ever had!

  • We definitely aren't really doing a favor. His parents seem to think people are going to starve so we have 3 apps, dinner, and a small dessert bar. 3 things. I just need to get litle plates for them. Then we have the cake. You don't get a favor lol. Plus, like PP said, they go to waste. We didn't want to spend money on something people don't care about honestly.
  • Not doing a traditonal favor. We are however having a "candy bar/buffett" and I have someone who is making personalized water bottles for me !! Thats it and thats all. We are all paying a pretty penny for our guests to have an awesome night !! I think thats favor enough lol

  • We're having favors. We weren't going to at first because of budget constraints, but my parents insisted. It's going to be an array of cupcakes and chocolates for guests to either have as a late night snack or take home favor. My parents are putting in so much financially and time wise, that we couldn't say no...besides, who would say no to a spread like that? ; However, I don't think it's necessary to have them. Like our coordinator said, unless your guests can eat it, skip 'em!

  • We are doing mini wine bottle.  I purchased them whole sale so we actually only paid around 88 cents a bottle. I feel if it snot edible no one cares.  Alot of people seem to be doing photobooths, candy buffets etc;  I think thats a great idea too and it can be done cheap.
  • I used out favor budget to cover the photobooth.  But then I found these plastic bookmark sleeves that hold the photobooth strip so we picked them up and will have them at each seat with a thanks for coming note in each.
  • We are not doing favors.  We are though doing rack cards from vista print with a thank you on them that will be at each place setting.  We are also doing "tears of joy" packets for the ceremony and probably bubbles.  So I think this is plenty.   If we were not doing these few things, we would not be doing them.  Not in the budget.
  • We're just doing cookies, simple, but originally I didn't want favors (Mom insisted on it).  Like others have said, no one really remembers (or necessarily even wants) favors, my friend did pint glasses, ppl didn't take them (who wants a pint glass with someone else's name) so they have cases of pint glasses at home.  I live in Vermont, and I have a windowsill full of mini maple syrups, when my Mom suggested doing mini maple syrups I put my foot down!
