Look at me...being all productive

I have today and tomorrow off, and I'm actually getting wedding stuff done! - I just called Oakmont to make an appointment. - I made an appointment with the seamstress for tomorrow to get Franken-dress started. - My step-mom and I are going out tomorrow and hunting down decor and dinnerware. - I need to go get some starch to form my veil, and it will be done. - I finished my hand-made crinoline this morning. PS - Does anyone have cake stands they want to part with? Not the big fancy kind that wedding cakes go on, but the kind when you make cakes at home. I'm going to need like 20 of them, and that's a lot of yard sales/thrift stores to stalk. ;)

Congrats on all of that! It sounds like things are falling into place! Sorry, no knowledge of anyone selling cake stands, but maybe try the Trash to Treasure board or Craig's List?

I'm in Florida, but I have a cake stand you can borrow :) Do you think Oakmont might rent them to you?Oh, I have an idea that might be cheaper/easier! Could you get the glass blocks from glass block windows that a lot of catering companies use? That's what was used to elevate some of my cookie trays at my reception. That would be cheaper and easier. Then you put the glass block down and put the cake plate on top. Just a thought!

I did make one cake stand. It's a large glass plate from walmart for $3 and a ice cream dish from the dollar store glued together. My step-mom is concerned about it's stability for cutting (I tried to tell her people do this all the time). So she would "feel more comfortable" with real cake stands. I tried TTT, but didn't think of craigs list. Good call!

I just Googled a little for you because I was curious. Some people have said that Target has them cheap, but only if you get them in the store (online shipping is too much). I know I bought one for my mom super cheap at Walmart. What about making something, but not gluing glass on glass, since your SM was thinking about stability. Someone online on another board I found took a round wooden thing and then screwed it to a thick finial and sealed the whole thing for a few bucks. Also, my cake stand off my registry was $10 at BB&B, but you could probably get a coupon and make them $8 each. It's not really that cheap, but might be worth a shot. And then there's these here for $6 each, shipping's $15 total for 20, so total would be like $135. Kind of a lot, but maybe easier than driving all over looking for them.http://tinyurl.com/l6pba2HTH!

My mom bought plastic cake stands for my shower centerpieces at Shorin's in the strip.  I doubt they were that expensive...not as nice as glass, but cheaper for sure!
