Wedding Invitations & Paper

Do you put "and guest" when sending Save-the-Dates?

We have several single guests whom we'll be inviting with dates.  When addressing the save-the-dates, is it proper etiquette to put "John Smith and guest" on the save-the-date?  Or should the "and guest" part be done only on the invitations?   What is the proper etiquette here??

Re: Do you put "and guest" when sending Save-the-Dates?

  • If they are travelling, you'll want to let them know that they are invited along with a date with the STD.  If they're local to the wedding, you can just address it to John and let him know he can bring a date with the invitation.

There's not an etiquette rule about it, though.  Either way is fine.  If your guest list is tight and there's a chance you may have to cut out dates down the line, it's smarter to just address it to him.

  • We didn't put 'and guest' on our STDs.
  • Since the majority of my guests will be traveling 4+ hours for my wedding and will definitely need hotels and the like, I included it for all of the out of town singles. However, I didn't include it for the local people just in case I can't fit them in the guest list. I probably broke a rule though. If you know for sure you are inviting everyone with guest, go ahead and let them know now. But only if you are sure.
