Wedding Invitations & Paper

Reception/Accommodation Card together?

Hi ladies, Pittsburgh knottie here with an invitation-specific question.  I am planning a big (250-300 guests), formal-but-not-terribly-traditional wedding for this July.  I picked out my invitations and am now trying to figure out the wording and setup.  My question:

Did any of you do a joint reception/accommodation card?  I don't want to have too many extra cards floating around, and all the information is on the website anyway.   I was planning to put the website at the bottom of this same card and direct people there for more information.  Does this sound ok, or is it a big etiquette breach?  Thanks!

Re: Reception/Accommodation Card together?

  • Obviously your invitation to the ceremony is its own card and the RSVP to be mailed ot you is also separate.  As far as additional inserts regarding reception, hotels, transportation and/or directions, I don't think its a big deal to combine two+ things on an insert, just be sure its not cluttered.  Try using both sides of the paper.  You may need a 4th depending on how much info you want/need to include.

Also, not sure what Emily Post would say but I think its fine to direct people to your website for additional info.  However, I think info that is totally necessary should be included in your mailing - you should account for older guests who may not be very computer savvy and for OOT guests its convenient for them to take your inserts with them in case they forget to print things like directions...  Just something to consider.  I'm sure you'll find a good balance!
  • If it were me, I'd have the Invite, a Reception card, an Accomodations/More Info/Website card, and an RSVP card.  If you absolutely can't come up with enough cards for that, you can put the website at the bottom of the Reception card, but it would be my last resort.

That is what I'm doing. However, if you are DIYing and trying to save paper, you can probably do a 2-sided insert with reception info on one side and accomodations and website on the other.

  • Thank you all!  I'm not DIYing and it really isn't a big deal to do separate reception cards and accommodations/more info/website card, I was just trying to avoid wasting more paper/having a lot of inserts, since the vast majority of our guests are computer savvy.

I think I will do as suggested and separate the two.  I appreciate the help!
