Save the Dates

Hello Everyone!

I posted this in my October 2013 site - but also realized that it might be best to ask here.  I see that the knot recommends that we send our save the dates (if we plan on doing so) 4-6 months ahead of time.  Since this is a fairly big window - is the actual month based on distance - or is it pretty much when you get the chance during the 4-6 month period.

Save the dates can be sent anywhere 6-12 months ahead of time. For some, they'll look into travel and for some it's just a heads up. I'm getting married 10.16.13 and sent mine last week.

STDs are actually sent more like 9-12 months out. 6 would be ok, I guess, but if you wait until 4, you're getting too close to when the invitations need to go out, and that makes them kind of pointless. The further away people are, I would think the sooner you would send them. We sent all of ours out 8 months ahead and most of our guests were local.

Yeah 6-9 months seems to be the standard. We sent ours a little before 6 months out, but if we'd had time (short engagement) I would have done them at closer to 8 months because we have a lot of OOT guests.
