Guest List Template - A/B

I'm trying to format my guest list to load to Guest List Manager on The Knot, but I have no idea what A/B stands for and what I'm supposed to put in that column. Anyone know? Thanks!

Also - how do I put in three kid's names since there's only two spots???

Re: Guest List Template - A/B

  • The A/B is if you're doing a B-list (sending out a second round of invitations based on how many in the first group decline), which is an etiquette no-no.  So you can safely ignore that.

Word of warning, the Knot's guest list stuff is notoriously buggy and problematic, you might be better off sticking to Excel or using another site like Wedding Wire, which has more reliable tools.

This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • It's for A list and B list, meaning that some people divide up their guest list into groups and only invite the B list if they get enough declines from the A list.  This is generally considered rude and a bad plan, so just ignore it.

No idea about the kids.  A lot of people have tons of problems with TK's guest list, so you are probably better off using an excel spreadsheet instead.

  • I was able to add a 3rd child to mine, but not via importing the excel list.

Just add just the first two children in the Excel sheet, import, then locate the party on the uploaded list and edit their single entry.  (I invited a family that has 5 children, it took me a while to figure it out, but I got it!!)

Guest List Manager works fine, but the 2 biggest issues I've had with it are:

    1)  When RSVP's come in, sometimes the name doesn't register.  The e-mail you get indicates that party can't be found on your list, so you take the info they manually typed in - go in and manually switch their reply to "accepted".  Little frustrating - especially when my parents (ahem PAYING FOR LIKE 75% OF THE WEDDING) try to RSVP and TK tells them "they're not on the list".  MAJOR panic for me, but my parents were cool about it.  READ THOSE CONFIRMATION E-MAILS CLOSELY.  It'll save you phone calls when you start touching base with all the "no response" people.  I deleted a week's worth of confirmation e-mails before noticing that I should have gone in and manually accepted for some of them.

    2) When guests reply and enter an e-mail address, TK's site doesn't update that data for you - you've got to go in and manually add that as well.  So again - after deleting a week of RSVP confirmations, I realize nobody's e-mail was updated & I don't have it anymore either.  So some people won't be getting links to the photographer's pics after the big day.  GRRRR!!!!

I'd recommend creating a folder in your e-mail for replies and keeping them all until you're sure you don't need any of that info anymore.

  • You have to click on the guest's name, go to the personal info tab, then click edit.

Under Children, there's a + sign on the left, click that and it'll give you another field.
