Wedding Invitations & Paper

Oh no! I forgot to ask a meal choice.

Hi Guys I need some opinons. I was so exited I got all the invites done and maild......and forgot to ask for a meal choice. HELP! Do I send a seperate card(more cards more postage) or select the basic chicken meal for everyone?

Re: Oh no! I forgot to ask a meal choice.

  • I'm trying to brainstorm so just randomly throwing out ideas...  Did you provide wedding web site information with your invitations, where you could you set something up there for people to let you know their menu selections?  As you get the "yes" RSVPs, maybe you, your mother, your fiance, and his mother could divide the labor of contacting guests to determine their menu choices?  Check with the coordinator at your venue...is it even that big of a deal?  Or do they have any ideas how you could get the information?  Or a policy of which selection is the default (i.e. chicken) if a guest doesn't designate their preference?  I definitely wouldn't select the basic chicken meal for everyone except maybe as a very last resort if you aren't able to determine someone's preference, but I think the staff at your venue can likely assist with handling it more gracefully.

Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.

If the invitations are in the mail, don't send anything else. Pick one meal for everyone -- go with your favorite -- and have the kitchen prep an additional number of vegetarian options.  The food manager should be able to recommend a number.
  • Will your venue at least allow you to have two choices day of?  Picking the entree is very limiting to your guests.  I would find it very weird....I've never been to a wedding where I'm told what I'm eating for the main entree with no options.
  • Call you venue and see what they say before doing anything else.  I wouldn't choose the entree for people. Every wedding I've even been to that asked for meal choices before hand was just for a general idea. They still asked the day of.
