Wedding Invitations & Paper

Invite wording, reception to follow...where?

I'm working on my invites (diy)
At the bottom how do I say the reception is at a different venue?  Or can that just be on the reception card?

Re: Invite wording, reception to follow...where?

  • I'm pretty sure that "reception to follow" should only be on the main invite if they're in the same place, but I could be wrong.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • Thats what I was thinking too.  "Reception to follow" seems to imply that they are int he same venue.  One website I found said to put the ceremony and location then the reception and location.  But is that right?

So you think don't put reception on the invite and just keep all the reception info on the reception card?

  • Hmm. I would put "reception to follow" and then put a reception card in the envelope. That will clear up where the reception is. Or you can put, "Reception to follow at the Belle Club" and then put the address and directions/parking information on a separate insert.

Reception to follow indicates that the reception is at the same venue as the ceremony. If it's in a different location, a reception card is required -- it's actually considered a separate invitation.

If you're formatting in Word, remember that it automatically capitalizes the first letter of the first word on a new line. The s in "son" does not need to be capitalized as there's an implied comma after his name. It is not a new sentence. Also, "on" in the date line should be lowercase as well. Spell out the state -- it is more formal.

Do not say Black Tie Optional -- it's either black tie or not, unless your venue states that guests must be in black tie. If your venue does not have a strict dress code, you cannot state what your guests should wear.
