Wedding Invitations & Paper

Program question

We're having a Jewish wedding, and a lot of our guests are not Jewish.  I'm trying to decide between having printed programs to give out on the day of and directing people to our website, where we'll have descriptions of all the parts of the wedding.  The first part of the wedding is interactive, so I want guests to be prepared to participate which won't necessarily happen if they don't know about it in advance.  However, printing a multi-page program is going to cost a whole bunch, and I'd rather not waste all the paper and money on something that's going to go in the trash at the end of the day.

Any ideas?

Re: Program question

  • Programs are a pretty popular part of the ceremony but they're truly unnecesary; if you don't want to print them then don't.

Is there another reason you want to do programs besides detailing the ceremony? I'm sure your guests won't mind not having a visual description of the ceremony and honestly, I don't think they're going to memorize the order of the ceremony before attending.

If you truly don't want programs, it's totally ok not to have them - especially if you think they're going to go to waste. If you want the visual for your guests to follow, then it's what is worth the investment to you.

Is your ceremony going to be terribly long? I'm just curious why you said multi-page.

This is a basic version of what the programs would have, plus all the regular stuff (people doing each part).
In terms of the interaction, the guests are supposed to entertain the bride and groom before ceremony and I want our non-Jewish friends to know about this and not be totally shocked and confused when they arrive.

Wow that's alot to include! I would definitely print something so the guests understand what is going on and like PP said, nothing fancy. If I was a guest at your wedding and all this was going on without explanation I would have questions.

These are very beautiful traditions by the way - especially the Yihud. That should be a manadatory part of ALL ceremonies!

  • Thanks to both of you.  I'll probably end up printing something and also having it on our website.  I obviously have a bit of time to decide for sure.

  • I would DIY it.  That's what we're going to do.  My FI and I are Catholic, and we're having a full mass, even though many guests are not Catholic.  It can save you money to do a DIY thing and then guests aren't completely confused.
