Wedding Invitations & Paper

Asking guests to RSVP via email?

Is it tacky to ask guests on the paper invitations to RSVP by email?

Re: Asking guests to RSVP via email?

  • Not necessarily tacky, but you may have a low response rate. Only a couple of my friends have tried this, and they had response rates between 20-30%. I'm not sure what the cause was.

  • Not tacky.  But, it does send the message that it is a more casual event.  A mailed RSVP has some sense of formality about it that email doesn't give.  Of course, you'll also need an alternate for those who don't do email.

I've also seen/heard that people don't respond as well when you use email.  Maybe they're just lazy, or maybe it's a function of sending the more casual tone, or maybe it's not causal at all.  But I wouldn't go this route if you need an exact head count.
  • Very tacky. This is okay for shower and Bach invites but def not wedding ones.

  • I don't think it's tacky.

Personally, I like RSVP through wedding websites as opposed to just e-mail - since I visit the website anyway and via phone is good additional option. However, I would include a mail-in RSVP for less tech savy guests.
  • Believe it or not there are people who still do not use the Internet much...
