Wedding Invitations & Paper

What to write on Save the Date postcards?

Hello Everyone :)

We are still 5-6 months out before we send out our save the dates... 90% of our guests are from the Michigan, Pennsylvania, and New York area and we're in Tennessee...So, Save the Dates are super important in our case.

In any event... We got our save the dates and they are postcards. They are quite cute and we really like them. Since they are postcards, we feel we need to write something on the back. We were trying to come up with a cute poem or catchy phrase that end with "formal invitation to follow."

We have plenty of time to figure out what exactly we'll say on the back... But, in this case, I'd appreciate any suggestions we can get. The front of the post card says Save the Date, our names, wedding date, & the town and state we'll be getting married in.

So anyone have suggestions of what we can put on the back? I think it'd be really silly to not put a message in the desingated message spot.

Thanks :)

Re: What to write on Save the Date postcards?

  • I'm having the same issue.  Should it be a personalized note or something like "we hope you can make it!"

Even if we don't write a message, the address should be hand written, correct?  As opposed to printing out a label.
  • See I totally am clueless on this topic. I thought the postcard idea was cute & still do, but, I feel silly sending a post card without anything write on the back. I mean--it's the whole point of a postcard :) A friend of mine suggested writing something to the effect of "We hope you can make it! Formal Invitation to Follow" but... I mean, I'd like to come up with something a little more endearing.

Because 90% of our invitees are more than 300 miles away, we are really concerned that we will have little to no guests. So, I don't want to put a "blah" message on the back. I know the important people will come, but, I'd really hate to only have a handful of guests... Especially after all the money we've put down on our reception. Regardless of how many people come, I know we'll enjoy our day. But, you know, we'd love most of the people we invite to come. In the long run of things, I'm not even sure how important Save the Date's are.

I was planning on just writing out all the addresses on the back. My handwriting isn't great, but, it's also not terrible. At the same time, I really don't know how much I'm going to enjoy writing out over 100 Save the Dates... Yikes! I guess thats why it's important to get started early!

I'll do some research and see if I can come up with anything. If I do, I'll post it here... Maybe it'll help the both of us :)

    Have a wonderful day!

  • i sent out save the date magnets and they read "our day is fast approcahing and we can hardly wait,we want you to be with us so please save the date".These are what they looked like http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j166/Jenni83/wedding/livepreview.jpg

  • I put practical information - hotel blocks, closest airports, etc - on one half of the back, then wrote the name and address of my guest on the right half of the back. Most of my guests are coming from OOT. PIB if you're interested.

That is so funny! I was looking up stuff online and found that. I think that's actually what I'm going to do. But, instead of Save the Date, it'll say formal invitation to follow as the front of the post card already says Save the Date :)

    Thanks so much!
