Wedding Invitations & Paper

How many programs?

Is there a 'general rule' for how many programs to print? Is it a percentage of the total guests, or one for each family, or one for each guest? I haven't sent out invites yet so I'm not sure how many will plan to come, but I'm thinking it'll be 200+.

Thanks!

Re: How many programs?

  • If your ceremony is complicated, and the programs tell guests when to stand, sit, kneel, sing, etc., you need one for each person who can read. I prefer this regardless, but if it's a simple order of service and who's-who in the bridal party, one for each couple is enough.
  • We're planning on 1 per person.

  • We're doing one per person, because like ElisabethJoanne said, it's a complex ceremony.  I don't like sharing on Sunday's, because we have to read the order of service for the whole hour, so I wouldn't want my guests to either, but that's just me.
  • We had a complex ceremony and printed one per person to be on the safe side.  I have no idea how many got used (I was too busy at the time and didn't think to ask the ushers after) but everyone followed along fine.  Most of them got returned to the box at the end, people didn't (for the most part) take them home as souvenirs.  They were cheap so I wanted to be on the safe side and have enough.
  • I think 1 per person is a bit excessive even if its a 'complicated' ceremony.  I would do one per family plus a couple extra.  Men generally won't pick one up especially if their SO is with them.  If its a Catholic ceremony most of the family (his, yours, or both) will already know what to do since its tradition.  We had 100 guests and I printed 80, had about 30 left over.

  • We did one per person. Not a complicate ceremony and no audience participation. But we designed and printed them ourselves and my thought was that I'd rather have extra than not enough. We had plenty left over, but I never counted so I have no idea what the number or percent was.

The only cost of the extra was the ink since we'd bought the paper in a package anyway.

As a guest, I usually take one and so does DH.
