Re: QOTD 9/12

  • I toyed with the idea of having one but decided to skip it all together. I may suggest drinks afterwards but it will be more of a "FI and I are going for drinks, you're welcome to join us" that us hosting another event.

  • We're having ours at a restaurant across the street from our venue. As it turns out, it has a very similar look and feel to our venue, and the food is delicious! The day that FI and I saw our venue, we drove back down to have dinner there and talked with the owner. While we were there, she gave us a proposal and we settled on a menu.

All we have to do is give her the deposit and headcount! :)

We're going to have ours at our rehearsal building. We're getting married in a new (old, burned, rebuilt and restored) building that has been recreated with a lot of spaces for workshops and meetings. Our wedding is in the main large room, but upstairs is a loft like area that is comfy for up to 50 or 60 that we'll have the RD in. We haven't decided where we're getting the food yet, but hopefully it'll be pretty easy.

ETA: We're only having 20-25 for the actual RD.

  • My FMIL decided she wanted to be in charge of the RD, so I currently have no idea what it's going to be like.  They mentioned having a dj or going swimming, but no one would actually do that since it'll be kind of small.  Hopefully they changed their minds.

  • I wanted to skip it, with the wedding party being in 2 different cities but FMIL is insisting on having one.

  • FMIL is planning it so I'm leaving it all up to her. She did it for FIs two brothers, one at a restaurant and the other at her house. She said she would never do it at her house again lol. So I'm sure it will be at a restaurant but that's all I know

  • We're starting to plan that now.  My future in-laws haven't been real fothcoming in what they can pay for and what type of event they are wanting to do.  Hoping to meet with them soon.  But, since I occasionally plan events for work, I'm starting to research options and will put together a breakdown of costs for them so they can see the options side-by-side.

I really want to have it at Dave & Busters.  We had our first date there, and we went there right after we got engaged, so it's a pretty special place for us.  Just not sure if it's in budget.
  • Well us and the in laws decided on this great restaurant in our town for just the bridal party and anyone involved in the ceremony. But then we get a phone call from my father in law the other day saying he feels he has to host everyone coming in from out of town (which is basically everyone) so is going to have it at his house instead.  FI loved the idea but I hate it.  I'm letting him do what he wants though since it'll be one less thing for me to have to plan and plus I've gotten alot of things I want throughout this process so far.

  • We are having it at the church (big church), and are just having a local restaurant cater. FMIL wants to have a local ice cream place deliver as wel, but I can do without. It's going to be really simple, casual, and laid back.

  • We're having one, but only for parents and BP. Oh, and their SO's if they want to come. I've been to RDs where it seems the whole wedding is invited, and I just can't invite that many people. FI is against the whole one person paying for the whole thing. He says everybody should pay for their own plates. So in that case, we may have it at FMIL's house. It all depends on FI, and I'm sure he'd rather do it at his mom's house.

  • Originally, we were going to have it in this great downtown location near the hotels for OOT. But then I realized the restaurant I wanted is Italian and would compete with the food selection at the wedding the next night. I would rather people think the food is fabulous at the wedding rather than the RD. So, I'm looking into other restaurants in town that isn't Italian and not super expensive.
  • In laws are paying for it and asked us to pick a restaurant.  We're leaning towards a greek seafood restaurant.  Maybe we'll do a buffet- we have to get pricing first.

  • FMIL is hosting the RD. We are only inviting BP, their SO and OOT guest. Probably will do bbq to make up for Memeorial Day sense most of our guest will be on the road travling back home on the holiday.

  • FMIL is taking care of it. She asked for restaurant suggestions and I have done a little seraching. Probably somewhere dressy. It will be immediate family/WP + SOs, but not other OOT guests.

  • Not sure yet, I would like to do a really casual either BBQ or pizza party.  While i would love another super fancy party or even event I just cant justify the costs, plus most of our family would probably prefer to leave it at only one formal event and would probably have more fun with something casual.

  • having at my sisters house. ordering City BBQ and chillin. It also happens to be one of my groomsmen's birthday so we will have cake and ice cream as well. I think we are only gonna have people in the wedding no OOT people so it should be about 20 people or so

  • We're not having a bridal party so no need for a RD but we are having a meet & greet at the hotel we're staying at. They have a bowling alley so it will be there.
  • We are catering qdoba at his moms house. Just gonna buy some wine and he's gonna brew some beer. His dad is going to pay or the qdoba but we couldn't justify having him pay for the restaurant we looked at

  • Not a clue! I can't believe that it is something we already have to think about...
  • We haven't figured it out yet. We wanted to do something simple, like dinner at his (at that point nearly our) house, but his family is kind of hoity-toity, and they're really pushing a formal dinner. We're having trouble because we're both vegetarians, and most of my family is vegetarian, but they refuse to go to vegetarian restaurants. They don't understand that they can eat vegetarian food, but we can't eat non-vegetarian food. We're also not going to support an industry se find morally reprehensible, but they don't respect it, and his father dismisses him as a sissy because he's not a "carnivore" (and to be fair, no one is... the term is omnivore and it's completely different). It's really putting us in a hard position, because we know they're going to make any dinner they don't put their stamp of approval on a living hell for everyone. But of course not having a RD would give us hell from both sides of our family...

    TL;DR Sh*t sucks.
