When to book hotel rooms?

I haven't made any phone calls yet for ours and am kindof worried about availability, even this far out. Do you girls have the room blocks reserved for your guests yet?

Re: When to book hotel rooms?

  • None of our guests are really coming from out of town, so no.  All of my family is local and the part of his that is coming from out of town will probably stay with family, from what I've heard.

  • I got our room blocks in September since they are in a downtown area and tend to fill up. I wouldn't wait too long as most get released a month before anyways.

  • I did our room block in September. Our wedding date is college graduation time around here (and we have a lot of them) so they book up fast.

  • We reserved our block. In my opinion, there is no reason to wait. The rates aren't going to down the closer it gets, and rooms might fill up for whatever reason.

  • I have booked our room and my suite the night for before. We set the block up last month. I wanted to be sure I was all set and wanted to cross something off my list!

  • We got our hotel block in place back in June. I really wanted to get it in place since our wedding's over MDW, and most hotels in the area would be charging close to $200 a night. Ours is only $84 a night.

  • Dumb question... is there a fee for reserving a block of rooms? (I haven't made any phone calls yet, but would rather ask my dumb question here... haha)

  • I did this last week and most hotels have no fee for doing so. Mine did want a credit card number to hold the rooms. They get released back to the public on April 1st. Wow I'm jealous of you guys with no OOT guests. My whole bridal party except 1 person is OOT!

  • I reserved a block of rooms about a month ago because it was a quick and easy check and because our wedding is over Memorial Day weekend. I only blocked 10 rooms after going through our guest list and counting how many may possibly stay at the hotel vs stay with family in the area. There is no fee for reserving the block; they will give you a group code and a date that guests must book a room by in order to get the discount rate. It's good to at least take care of this before you send save-the-dates (if you're doing so) so that you can include info with them for your OOT guests. We included hotel info and then chose a B&B in the area to give that option. It turns out the B&B is actually a shorter distance away than the hotel and is cheaper.

We reserved a block a few months ago, I wanted to have it done before we sent the save the dates out. We lucked out with the hotel because the process was really easy. They didn't even need to know the number of people, they just locked in the rates for however many people ended up wanting to stay there. I just had to set up the first reservation to start it so I booked our room.

  • We've had both of our blocks for awhile now.  The motel at the venue booked our block when we reserved the reception space, and we got a 2nd block at another hotel back in June.

My mom even reserved her room already.  I've been pushing FI's parents to book theirs too since it's a holiday weekend, but they keep putting it off.
  • 90% of guests need a hotel room and there is only one hotel in the area.  We've had room blocks forever it seems.  There's no advantage to waiting.

  • I reserved a block a year in advance. The area we are getting married in is a vacation destination and is always sold out. I hope my guests get on the ball and reserve within the time period..otherwise they are out of luck.

  • I blocked my rooms back in July and I booked 10 rooms. Like pp they give you code, rate and day by when the guest need to RSVP. So doing it now will be good !
  • I was going to block 10 rooms but decided not to because I was worried people would say no at the end. I will leave that to them to figure out. I'm booking 2 nights just for me.
